With Fortnite, Epic Games has landed one of the greatest game hits of all time. The Battle Royale success has enjoyed great popularity for years – and that should not change with the appearance of the next-gen consoles.

As part of the Summer Game Fest, Epic Games not only presented the new Unreal Engine 5 based on a first technology demo on the PlayStation 5, but also has other news ready: Fortnite is also said to make the new consoles unsafe.
Such a step was basically to be assumed, but it has now been officially confirmed: The long-running Battle Royale is coming directly to the launch of the new consoles for PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X.
Downside: Fortnite is unfortunately not hoisted on the new consoles to the more powerful and noticeably more opulent Unreal Engine 5; instead, the Unreal Engine 4, which has already been used, will continue to be used as the basis on PS5 and XSX.
But: According to Epic Games, an upgrade to Unreal Engine 5 is also well considered; This should take place by mid-2021 and then also let Fortnite shine in new splendor. In addition, further details on the next-gen release were left open, apart from the intended cross-play and cross-save support. So gamers can also gamble across the platforms and access their progress from different platforms.
And: The versions for PS4 and Xbox One should continue to be supported until further notice. If you don't want to buy a next-gen console directly, you don't have to worry about staying on the Fortnite route.
