Blizzard, Disappointment, forgotten

Blizzard continues to tweak Warcraft 3: Reforged to meet fan hopes. Blizzard continues to tweak Warcraft 3: Reforged to meet fan hopes.

We hear you and you’re right: This roughly summarizes the tone of the latest developer update for Warcraft 3: Reforged. Blizzard apologizes for the months of radio silence, announces new things about matchmaking and expressly requests your feedback.

The remaster was a bitter disappointment for many fans: Missing features such as leaderboards, serious bugs and blizzards communication were three of the biggest criticisms. In between Warcraft 3: Reforged was the PC game with the lowest user score on Metacritic. Editor Peter put it this way:

Blizzard soon apologized and promised improvements. So far, however, the patches have caused even more fan annoyance. The current update should now be a step on the way to reconciliation with the players. What changes have been announced?

Matchmaking should be fairer – but also slower

This week is said to be one first balancing patch be uploaded to the public test realm. Ranking lists are still missing, but according to Blizzard they are still at the top of the priority list:

“The next feature that we will take a closer look at is the future ranking system. So keep an eye out for details about our plans in the coming weeks.”

The changes to the player assignment or matchmaking are probably a preparation for the often desired ranked games. Some fans have become active themselves:

How does matchmaking work? Through this system you will find opponents and teammates at your level. As in most MMOs, it is based on the MMR value – in German this means somewhat bulky »player assignment rating«. This rating tells you how good you are. It is updated after every match. The more you play, the more precise the classification.

What’s new now? The global player assignment in Warcraft 3: Reforged is coming – so you can compete against players around the world. Refinements to matchmaking are intended to make the allocations fairer. However, Blizzard also makes it clear: you may have to wait longer for a suitable match, especially in 1v1.

How is it in team games? If you create a team yourself, you will receive a team MMR that does not depend on your individual rating. Your own MMR will not be affected if you win or lose on the team. Big advantage: No matter how good or bad your friends are, you can form a group with them.

You can find an overview of how the MMR will change in all PvP modes in the future in the Blizzard developer update.

Monthly updates for “more player comfort”

Further monthly patches are intended to fix technical and balancing problems. Blizzard calls Desynchronizations as a particularly annoying bug: Already in Warcraft 3 it happened that the clients of players no longer ran synchronously with each other. This aborts the game suddenly.

Your feedback is expressly encouraged – Blizzard emphasizes that you will report regularly in the future and continue to work on many improvements. Perhaps editor Fabiano is right in the end: he believes Blizzard can reconcile the fans again.
