With season 2 of the Disney Plus series The Mandalorian gets Justified actors Timothy Olyphant Entry into the Star Wars universe. His role is said to be in direct connection with a well-known bounty hunter.
In the following article, we explain the character that Olyphant could play in the episodes starting in October 2020. Be there potential spoilers warned about the plot of the second season, The Mandalorian, while we explicitly address Season 1 events.
What Timothy Olyphant has to do with Boba Fett
It is not yet known which character Timothy Olyphant will play in The Mandalorian. Thanks to a new report from Slash film we now know that the actor, known from productions like Justified or Once Upon a Time in Hollywood, also like Pedro Pascal stuck in Mandalorian armor should.
However, this is not his own armor, but that of the legendary bounty hunter Boba Fett. It was already known a few days ago that Jango Fett’s son should also appear in season 2 of The Mandalorian. In return, Temuera Morrison (Attack of the Clones, Revenge of the Sith) returns to the Star Wars universe.
But what does this message mean specifically for Timothy Olyphant’s role and Boba Fett in The Mandalorian? All we have to do is look at the Aftermath novels of the new War of the Stars canon.
The books that play after Episode 6 – The Return of the Jedi have already suggested that Boba Fett may have survived his fall into the Carkoon pit. His Mandalorian armor was salvaged by Jawas, who subsequently named them a former slave Cobb Vanth in conflict with the gangster Adwin Charu.
Sheriff vs. Bounty hunter (?)
Cobb Vanth is the self-proclaimed Sheriff of the city of Freetown on Tatooine. After the death of Jabba the Hutt in episode 6, a vacuum of power emerged in the underworld of the desert planet, which Vanth exploited to maintain law and order on Tatooine on his own – in Mandalorian armor.
With Timothy Olyphant’s casting and the report that he would wear the armor of Boba Fett, it is reasonable to assume that the Justified actor appears as the Cobb Vanth in season 2 of The Mandalorian.
That would mean that Post-credits scene in episode 5 the first season The Mandalorian »Der Revolverheld« showed not Boba Fett, but Cobb Vanth. Vanth may have followed in the footsteps of Din Djarin (Pedro Pascal) and came across the lifeless body of Fennec Shand (Ming-Na Wen) – who is also expected to return for season 2 of The Mandalorian.
This allows two relatively solid theories for Boba Fett’s “small role” in season 2 of The Mandalorian:
- Boba Fett only occurs in the course of flashbacks: We may see the bounty hunter fight his way out of the Sarlacc’s throat, leaving his armor behind or afterwards.
- Boba Fett takes on Cobb Vanth: The bounty hunter may want to reassemble his armor and clash with Freetown’s self-proclaimed sheriff.

The Mandalorian: Season 3 for Disney + already in progress
Either way, both variants could prepare for season 3 of The Mandalorian, which is already in pre-production and in which Boba Fett should play a larger role. However, season 2 of The Mandalorian must start first, the for October 2020 on the Disney + streaming service is scheduled.
