Alienware, brazenly, concept, copy, Switch, UFO

With Concept UFO, a handheld PC prototype, Alienware has launched a new platform that wasn't just a little inspired by Nintendo's Switch.

Not only the PlayStation 5 final logo was officially unveiled at CES 2020. Alienware, the well-known gaming PC manufacturer, really surprised the event in Las Vegas. Concept UFO was shown, a gaming PC in handheld format, which looks so similar to the Nintendo Switch that one can almost speak of a clone. It should be noted that it is only a prototype, which does not necessarily have to lead to a real product in this version.

What is striking is the screen with kickstand, which has removable controllers on the right and left, which can be put together on a bracket to form a single gamepad. Alienware doesn't even try to obscure the source of inspiration for the design of Concept UFO. On the contrary: The creators of the concept play with the idea that makes Switch so attractive: to be able to play great games on the go without a TV or monitor. Specifications such as battery life, chipset and Co. were hardly mentioned.

The prototype is to use Windows 10 as the operating system, the weight of the device is about one kilo, which would be a real heavyweight in the handheld area. The screen is an eight-inch model with 1200p resolution. With USB-C connections, Concept UFO should be expandable, for example, with a mouse and keyboard.

At the fair, visitors could already try out the system and play Rocket League, F1 2019 and Mortal Kombat 11 on it.
