Last year we attended the sale of one of the most disruptive technologies in mobile phones: wrap screens. This type of panel was new, in fact we've been seeing it at CES for several years, but it wouldn't be used in sales models.
Samsung changed that by introducing the Samsung Galaxy Fold, which was the first mobile phone to wrap around the market, and today it's the only one we can buy.
Huawei and later Motorola also announced their own but, in general, the industry was highly skeptical of the extent that such a high-priced model could have.
Samsung confirms that it sold half a million units
A few days ago a company official revealed that the Fold had surpassed one million units for sale, but shortly afterwards other executives appeared to explain that it was a mistake, that the figure was not so high.
At CES 2020, DJ Kho, director of Samsung's consumer division, made a number of official units sold: between 400,000 to 500,000 Samsung Galaxy Fold in 2019.
This figure doesn't reach the millions who sell models like the Glass S, Huawei P or iPhone, but they do show some success in the company's plans, especially as the price of this model is around 2000 euros.
Soon there will be a second model
In fact, Samsung has confirmed that on February 11 there will be a launch event for the new smartphones and, although the star is expected to be the Galaxy S20 and its variants, it is highly likely that we will see the next wrap-up phone, whether or not it is available. Fold follower.
This end will be rolled like a standard portable metal, and much cheaper than the original Fold, and is more than just a Motorola Razr. It is expected to cost about $ 800.
