Gamescom: a hybrid event scheduled for 2021

While gamescom 2020 was held last week, from August 27 to 30, in a 100% digital format, the organizers of the German show announced that they intend to offer a “hybrid event” for the next edition.

Felix Falk, Managing Director of the German Games Industry Association, say more on their plans for gamescom 2021:

The current circumstances have made hosting gamescom 2020 extremely difficult, but particularly exciting. Its digital version demonstrated the international potential of our event, which is already the largest in the world. However, it has become clear that hosting a physical event is important to the community and the video game industry, in addition to additional digital developments. So now we need to build on our experience from this year and use it to prepare the ideal event – online and offline – for 2021.

If circumstances permit, gamescom will therefore return in 2021 to its usual lair, the Koelnmesse in Cologne, and will again offer online content. The dates have already been announced: it will be from August 25 to 29.

Gamescom 2020 was built on a online hub centralizing all the information and programs broadcast during the event. The Opening Night Live opening ceremony was attended by nearly two million spectators simultaneously.
