Right from the bat, we can now see the size of the console compared to an human, and in fact it is as big as we once thought. In the following video we see how the console is demolished, what tools are needed for this, and the curiosity base that will allow us to have the console in a horizontal position, leaving room for “breathing” in the next.
Unpacking PS5: it works but it is not difficult
First, we have to remove the foundation to remove it. This is something we understand that right from the start the user will have to do it because the normal thing is that it will not be set when you buy the console. Apparently the foundation has an anchor screw and that it does not get lost, as well as rubber to cover the console hole and that it is not bad. Lots of interesting little details.
The same base can be held without the need for screws or tools behind the console to keep it slightly exposed to the ground, so that air circulates under the console to encourage cooling.
After removing the foundation, applying a small pressure should press and change both white panels on the side. This process is simple and done without tools, and gives us access to air vents on both sides.
This leaves us with the “naked” console to start managing its interior. The first thing we have to do if we want to dismantle it is to remove the cover so we can install an additional M.2 SSD. This is great because by literally removing two screws (one on the base and one on the cover) can add extra storage.
Installing an SSD on the PS5 does not apply to the warranty because we do not have to remove any mark, but from this point we must break the mark which will remove the console warranty, so be aware of that. This feature gives us access to some of the screws that will allow us to remove certain covers that provide access to the PS5 hot springs, and the next part to disassemble just after removing the side pieces of plastic.
After this, it is not removed and removes the top plastic cover and optical drive, which is located on one side. This unit, by the way, comes plugged into a disassembled metal box to replace the Blu Ray unit, an important factor in the event of a breakdown and in need of replacement.
The next step of unpacking the interior of the PS5 is to disconnect the WiFi cables, and after that you can remove the metal cover that covers the entire motherboard, and then the SoC console socket of the console, and that will already allow you to remove the motherboard completely.
On the mother board we can also see, on the other hand, the GDDR6 chips are arranged in a circular pattern, all equidistants from the SoC having the same access times, indicating that the interior of the PS5 is a well-thought-out engineering work to the last detail.

After removing the heatsink (which we will see next to provide a special section), you can also remove the 350-watt power supply.
Cooling system within PS5
There are a few trivial things here because they will give us very long stories, but we have to give a special section to the fridge because we found it very interesting, and it shows that SonY has been very emphatic that many complain that PS4 was too hot and too noisy, problems they intend to avoid in PS5.
First, they showed us that the IHS SoC has a liquid metal adhesive to ensure excellent heat transfer.
On the other hand, a large heatsink made of low-grade copper and several areas of aluminum sheets with piping technology have been included. Thanks to the blower heatsink arrangement we saw earlier, the interior of the PS5 is designed to let air in only one place but leave all console ventures, cooling everything at once. It is similar to the design of the Mac Mac “trash can” but horizontally, very well thought out.
This heatsink has six copper heat pipes in total, and the size and temperature distribution of heat is much larger than what we normally see on both the CPU and GPU of desktop computers. SONY was not released here.
After removing a few pieces and the back connecting panel, the console is completely disconnected and can allow us to access any of its components.
We have to say that we are impressed by the ease of disassembly and as a result the upgrade of the SONY PS5, as well as its interior design, its cooling system and that they offer access to the M. 2 installing the SSD alone without voicing the warranty, the actual details of those users who get the internal storage space of the console are short.
