Although the Xbox Series X is the much more powerful console on paper, the first direct comparisons came to a different conclusion in practice.
Microsoft was so convinced of delivering the significantly more powerful device with this generation of consoles that this fact even became a pillar of the marketing of the Xbox Series X. At least on paper, the PlayStation 5 clearly lost out. But now both consoles have been subjected to a fair practical test and the comparison shows that data on a sheet of paper is not everything.
The result shows that the Xbox Series X, using the launch titles, at best draws level with the PS5, and in the worst case, strangely enough, even performs worse. Digital Foundry compared some of the current titles directly to arrive at this conclusion. First of all, Devil May Cry 5: Special Edition was examined carefully. In normal 4K mode, both consoles are almost on par with a minimal lead over the Xbox Series X in terms of frame rate. According to the testers, this is surprisingly low given the hardware available. The frame rate mode is interesting, however. Here the action title runs much more smoothly on the PlayStation 5, in places with a difference of a good 50 frames per second.

It looks similar with Compared to Assassin’s Creed: Valhalla out. Digital Foundry found drops to below 60fps and screen tearing on the Series X, but not on the PS5. Dirt 5 also scores better on Sony’s console in terms of image quality and performance – here is the comparison video.

What can be the reason? Loud The Verge This fact is due to the fact that the developers did not receive devkits of the Xbox Series X until later than those of the PlayStation 5. Developers have also announced that they could only submit their games for certification in June after Microsoft updated its Game Developers Kit would have.
Microsoft is already aware of this problem and is working with the developers to find solutions. “We are aware of the performance issues in a handful of optimized titles on Xbox Series X / S and are actively working with our partners to identify and resolve them so we can ensure the best possible experience,” said a Microsoft spokesman for The Verge .
