Although this is a beta feature, our Apple devices already allow us to translate entire websites into their go-to search engine: Safari. Apple designed this feature to be simple and accessible to everyone, and with a few clicks or keystrokes, we’ll see how our understanding of a website completely changes.
This is how an entire web page is translated in Safari for macOS
The first thing we need to keep in mind is to have the latest version of Apple’s browser. Once verified, the steps are as follows:
- Open Safari on the Mac and go to the website you want to translate.
- Safari automatically detects that the site is not in your default language and will display an icon with two bubbles in different languages next to the address bar. In the address bar we will also see the message Translation available if we hover over the icon without pressing.
- Click this icon, select the language we want the web to translate to and the page will be fully translated.
The process is immediate and reversible, by clicking on the icon again and selecting See the original.
This is how an entire web page is translated on iPad and iPhone
Just as we can translate websites in Safari for Mac, we can also translate it in Safari for iOS and iPadOS. As before, the first thing we need to make sure is that we have the latest version of the system, then just follow these steps:
- The first thing we’re going to do is go to Safari, open a website that’s not in our language, and we decide to translate.
- Once the website is located, we will click in the address bar on the icon with a A in two sizes.
- In the drop-down menu that will open, we will select Translate the website ….
- Again, we choose the language we want the page to be translated into.
- As long as we click on the language, the website will be automatically translated.
To reverse the process and get back to the website, we only have to go to the third step, and we will see how to see from “Translate website …” says See the original.
Safari currently offers the translation of Arabic, Chinese, English, French, German, Italian, Japanese, Korean, Portuguese, Russian and Spanish, although Apple has assured that the other pending languages have not yet arrived in the near future.
