The popular Immortals Fenyx Rising will finally premiere in Nintendo Switch On December 3, a few days after the official release, the developers participated in an interview with Game Informer to talk about part of the process of creating the puzzle mechanics in this installment.
The director of the game, Scott Phillips, explained the following about the adventure of creating a game with puzzle mechanics:
It was definitely a risk. It was something we had to be very clear about when we wanted to make puzzles one of our main pillars. There was a bit of a doubt because we didn’t necessarily have a lot of experience [con loz puzles]We had people who had worked on Prince of Persia, we had little puzzle elements in Assassin’s Creed Odyssey, but it was actually quite new to us.
Julien Galloudec, associate director of the game, added the following in this regard:
We spend a lot of time studying other games with different gameplay, always trying to solve puzzles and challenges to try to adopt the perspective to create great puzzles and also to start prototyping mechanics in which we mix physics, logic and object manipulation. From there we create many and many prototypes.
Phillips He reaffirmed that the prototypes were something important in the process, and they even made more than a hundred of them, but not all of them made it to the final game. These were his words:
There are about 60 cameras in the game but we had over 100 prototypes and we tested a variety of different things, and we iterated between them a lot to find what were the correct mechanics and the ideal way to challenge players. I think there is always room to have opportunities, there is always a different way to create puzzles, but I think trying to cover the world with these puzzles, the areas of arrows going through various ax eyes, precision circles with arrows, or the tests navigation where you try to rush to get somewhere quickly. And on top of all that we just gave level designers the freedom to create things, craft something, and test things. Some worked, others obviously not, but to a large extent it means that in the world there is always something more to discover, and it is as if you search a little more you will find a way to get there.
