After initial difficulties and discussions about the look of cult figure Sonic, the film adaptation of “Sonic the Hedgehog” turned out to be a success. Therefore a sequel could be produced next year.
The new film “Sonic the Hedgehog” had a rocky road to go before it was released. Fans were particularly bothered by the first look of the blue hedgehog, which is why the start date was postponed and it was fundamentally revised again. That paid off because the film was surprisingly successful.
For this reason, the makers are now apparently continuing to use the franchise and want to produce a successor. This is indicated by an entry on the BC Creative Film Commission website. The organization oversees the film and TV recordings in British Columbia and is now running a new production called “Emerald Hill”.
Sonic fans know, of course, that this is a reference in relation to the first level of Sonic the Hedgehog 2. A film sequel can therefore be considered almost certain, even if the official announcement is still pending. Production should start in March 2021; The shooting should be completed by May.
The start date for the film sequel is expected to be spring 2022, although it is still unclear whether the COVID-19 pandemic might still thwart this.
