Genshin Impact won the best game award for both the 2020 Google Play awards and the Best of 2020 lineup from the App Store de Apple.
“Any title crowned Best Game has to exceed expectations and deliver engaging, accessible, and genre-defining experiences,” read the Google Play listings. “Fortunately, this year’s winner does all of this without missing a beat.”
To celebrate these awards, developer MiHoYo will give all players 800 Protogems in total (or the value of five wishes) via Genshin Impact in-game mail. Expect to receive 200 per day from December 3 to December 6. That should help try to get the new 5-star Zhongli character.
Dear Travelers,
Thanks to everyone’s love and support, Genshin Impact has recently received multiple awards.
To thank all of our Travelers for their support, we will be issuing a total of 800 Primogems during the period of December 3–6. #GenshinImpact

These awards were announced along with the word of SensorTower which confirms that Genshin Impact has generated nearly $ 400 million for developer MiHoYo since its launch on Sept. 28, averaging over $ 6 million per day. The $ 5 Day Pass and $ 10 Battle Pass certainly provided a slice of the overall earnings as well, but the success of the gacha model cannot be denied.
According to MiHoYo, Genshin Impact is really just getting started. This is now a major update in depth, and update 1.2 is scheduled to arrive later this month. However, the developers believe that the full story of the game “will probably take several years” to complete, and there are certainly no signs that the game is going anywhere. We’ve only seen two of the seven planned regions, and the current Mondstadt and Liyue regions are also expected to be expanded in future updates, plus we’re missing a full character element. 2020 was undoubtedly a strong year for Genshin Impact, and I suspect we will see its reach explode to match its popularity in 2021.
