With the Geforce RTX 3080, Nvidia released the first graphics card of the new amp generation over two months ago. Since then, three more models have appeared (RTX 3090, RTX 3070, RTX 3060 Ti), but all cards have one thing in common: They are not readily available and usually much more expensive than officially stated.
In a webcast Nvidia’s chief financial officer Colette Kress commented on the current situation and the expected development (via Toms Hardware). According to this, the situation is improving bit by bit until the high demand can be met, but months will still pass:
“We anticipate that it will probably take a few months for stocks to catch up with demand, but right now it’s really difficult for us to judge precisely. We are focusing on getting our goods for this very important fourth quarter of 2020 The situation is getting better every day. By the end of the quarter we should be able to provide a little more information. “
The last sentence probably refers to the financial quarter. Accordingly, new information can be expected at the end of January 2021. If you want to know how fast the new Ampere graphics cards are, you can find them all in our latest review of the RTX 3060 Ti:

It’s not just the graphics chips that cause problems
According to Colette, there are also problems with the provision of the graphics chips by the manufacturer Samsung, especially since Nvidia is not Samsung’s only customer. The difficulties, however, go “beyond what we see in terms of wafers and silicon”.
The global logistical problems caused by the corona pandemic are likely to be an aggravating factor. Coupled with the current high demand, several factors come together.
Not only affected by Nvidia: As is well known, all of this also applies to other hardware manufacturers such as AMD (Ryzen 5000, Radeon RX 6000) and the new consoles (PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X). Microsoft has already stated that it can expect delivery problems well into 2021.
Gamers are currently faced with a dilemma: There has been so much exciting and fast hardware in a short time than it has been in ages. If you want them, you not only have to have patience and a little luck, but also a lot of money.
How do you feel about it? Do you accept longer waiting times and only strike when the situation has improved – even if that could take a long time? Or do you prefer to buy now and bite the bullet of higher costs? Feel free to write it in the comments!
