With the PS5 available in a color that is not unanimous and covered with easily interchangeable side panels, several prop manufacturers have started a race to be the first to offer accessories that change the look of the console. And when one of them has thrown in the towel (temporarily) in the face of threats of reprisals from Sony, another claims to be in their rights.

British side VGC announces the recent start of business Game armor, specializing in the manufacture of interchangeable panels for changing the color of PS5. These records, the set of which is currently selling at a temporary price of $ 35, are currently in the pre-order phase and are expected to ship in mid-January.
According to Game Armor, these records should “not suffer the wrath of Sony” as opposed to.PlateStation 5 / Custom Plates LTD“This is definitely what the company’s founder believes, a YouTuber who uses the pseudonym”CptnAlex“:
given that Our name is not deceptively close to a registered trademark, our product does not contain a registered logo and our “armor” is designed so differently that none of the designs we sell (our signs) are infringed without risk.
“Yes, but we have the right”
When asked on Twitter about the difference between its product and that of “Custom Plates LTD”, “CptnAlex” gets right to the point:
Their plates used the PlayStation logo and were sold under a brand name that came too close to that of PlayStation (“PlateStation 5” ed.), Which could be viewed as deliberately misleading and a court-filed trademark infringement.
The videographer / prop maker is therefore confident to say the least. In the hour in which these lines are written, his business is still running and offers matt black, red or blue stickers. It remains to be seen whether the project will be successful and whether these panels are of suitable quality for PS5. According to Game Armor, these accessories are made in China. Photos of the rendering offered by the Game Armor panels are available in our gallery below.
As a reminder, “PlateStation 5” changed its name and deleted the photos of the PS5 from its website after the pre-orders began for its plates to avoid the reprisals of the Sony legal department. These changes weren’t enough and the prop maker was forced to stop selling its plates and reimburse people already ordered. The last time I heard was that whoever is now known as Custom Plates LTD is saying they will be relaunching their product through a crowdfunding campaign.
