All playable characters in Metaphor ReFantazio
Here is a list of all the playable characters in Metaphor: ReFantazio and some information about each of them:
The protagonist
The protagonist is the main character from Metaphor: ReFantazio (I mean, the clue is in the name). In fact, you can name this character whatever you want at the beginning, and while he is mentioned by whoever you choose throughout the story, he is also given other names like “Captain.”
The protagonist is part of the Elda tribe who are very despised by the rest of the world, they are called “corrupted” because they are believed to have dangerous and heretical magic. The protagonist is often criticized, especially early in the game, but that doesn’t stop him from pursuing his goal: finding a way to lift a deadly curse placed on a close childhood friend.
In mourning
Grius is a character you meet very early in the story and he is a fiercely loyal and experienced warrior who is the only reason the prince still lives today (even though he is, you know, cursed). Grius is also the father of a sweet young girl named Maria who lives at the Honeybee Inn in Grand Trad under the caring and watchful eye of Fabienne. Aiming to get revenge on Louis, Grius will lead you and your group into Grand Trad to put an end to Louis. However, things go wrong and you will end up having to fight Grius, the undead.
Strohl
Strohl is a loyal friend and group member you meet at the beginning of the story. In fact, you yourself face your first great enemy alongside him. He is the last survivor of a human attack on a village and his parents were the village nobles. He’s part of the Clemar tribe, and as a noble, it’s strange that Strohl decided to enlist in the state army (that’s where you first meet him.)
He is a strong warrior and loyal to the cause: to bring down Louis. Once you create a bond with Strohl (this happens naturally in the story), you will unlock the Warrior archetype.
Hulkenberg
Hülkenberg is a character you meet just at the start of the Great Cathedral of Regalith and who serves as a key ally throughout your adventure. As a former member of the royal family’s royal guard, Hülkenberg was there the night the young prince was attacked and given the curse. After spending years searching for the young prince, she began to lose hope – until she met Strohl and the protagonist. However, she blames herself for the young prince’s curse.
She is part of the Rousseainte tribe and she is a skilled warrior who excels in the use of various types of weapons, which is how she was assigned to the Royal Guard from a young age. Forming a bond with Hulkenberg (which happens naturally in the story) will unlock the Knight archetype.
Heismay
Heismay was a knight of the Eugief tribe and, like that of the protagonist, this tribe is often subject to prejudice and discrimination. The reason for such harsh treatment? Simply the fact that the Eugief are radically different from any other tribe you can find in the world. Eugiefs are also primarily nocturnal.
Heismay carries Eugief’s trait of being sensitive to sound, which makes him an excellent ally in the field as he can often sense danger before anyone in the group realizes it. Bonding with Heismay will unlock the Thief archetype.
Juna
Junah is part of the Nidia tribe and is a singer well known throughout the kingdom as “the best in the land”. She often leads important or high-profile events, usually those held by royal titles, but not everything is as perfect as it seems.
Junah is said to live with Louis after he took her in and is believed to be something of a help to him. Obviously she can’t be too happy with the arrangement, as she will join your party later in the story. Once you bond with Junah, you will unlock the Masked Dancer archetype.
Eupha
Eupha is part of the Mustari tribe and is the priestess of the dragon god, her full name is Euphausia but she is happy to be called Eupha. She has a third eye which augments her already naturally strong magical abilities and allows her to see where Magla flows. You meet her on the island of Virga, home of the Mustari tribe called Pagans and in conflict with the Sanctist church.
You’ll only encounter her once you’ve made quite a bit of progress in the main story – so don’t expect to encounter her within the first few hours of the game. Once you’ve managed to bond with Eupha, you can unlock the summoner archetype.
Basilio
Basilio is part of the Paripus tribe and is actually part of Louis’ private army, more officially he is one of Louis’ two cadres. Basilio works with his older brother Fidelio and trusts his brother’s judgments, even if sometimes it’s not the best thing. However, while Basilio and Fidelio are on Louis’ side, they question his motives…
Basilio is the last playable character you can unlock, meaning you have to spend quite a bit of time progressing through the main story to reach the point where you can add him to your party. Once you have it, bonding with Basilio will unlock the Berskerer archetype.
