Automata are handy little robots that you can use to cause chaos in battle during Zelda: Echoes of Wisdom.
However, you first need to know how to get an Automaton, because unlike Echoes where it is unique, there are a number of steps you need to follow for almost every Automaton in Zelda: Echoes of Wisdom. This may include finding a specific item or completing an additional side quest. You must also complete the side quest “Damped Automaton Engineer”!
Take a look at our current projects list of all automatons below, so you can start learning how to get each automaton in Zelda: Echoes of Wisdom.

Automata in Zelda Echoes of Wisdom explained
Before you can start collecting Automata, you must first unlock the ability to use them in Zelda: Echoes of Wisdom. To do this, you will need to complete the side quest “Automaton Engineer Dampé”, which, for us, became available after completing the Hyrule Castle dungeon.
You’ll find Dampé experiencing Raven-related issues just north of Hyrule Ranch, where the side quest “Dampé Automaton Engineer” will begin. Once you complete this side quest, you will gradually unlock the others which will help you expand your Automaton collection.
Now let’s move on to the machines themselves and there are two important facts to remember when using them. First, automatons can break, and if that happens, you’ll need to return to Dampé so he can repair them. If you want to repair an Automaton, you will need to exchange a certain number of Monster Stones with Dampé. You should already have quite a few of these in stock, as Monster Stones can be found in a number of chests around Hyrule.
The second is that Zelda must liquidate the automatons before they can function. This can take a while, meaning it’s always best to end in a location where Zelda is safe from attack. Luckily, there are a few smoothie recipes that will speed up the winding process and you can find them all in our list of smoothie recipes and potions.
With these two facts in mind, it’s always best to ask yourself whether using an automaton is a good idea before entering combat and what you actually want to use it for. While useful, automata don’t have the speed of creating echoes, nor do you have an infinite supply. Choosing the wrong automaton could easily lead to it breaking and you having to return to Dampé in shame. Worse yet, Zelda could lose an awful lot of hearts just because she’s ambushed while wrapping one up. Some automatons also have a nasty side effect that you need to take into account, such as High-Teku Baba eating the items and rubies that a monster carries when killing. A machine to avoid if you are looking for rupees or items.
