How to Unlock New Abilities in Star Wars Outlaws
Kay learns new skills from various so-called experts across the galaxy – gunslingers, elite mechanics, small-time Jawa scavengers, and even old family friends. Finding the first two experts and unlocking their initial skills is something you need to do before you leave Toshara for the first time. The others are easy to miss, however, especially if you don’t review new information as you collect it.
The road to discovering new experts begins with a chain of intelligence and a lead on someone who can help Kay learn new tricks. Completing this initial chain usually leads you to the expert, who has their own quest, which might involve finding an item or extracting it from a very dangerous Imperial complex.
Once an expert agrees to help Kay, you can check out their available skills under the “Abilities” tab in the menu and see what you need to do to unlock a skill. Requirements usually include finding specific items and components, though you may also need to perform certain actions in combat, depending on the expert.
Best Basic Skills in Star Wars Outlaws
Here are the best early skills to learn from the early Star Wars Outlaws experts:
Bram – The bartender
All of Bram’s abilities under “The Bartender” are worth unlocking early, both for the skills they grant Kay and for how they teach you how to play the game.
Armored bodysuit is essential, as it increases Kay’s health meter by one. Quick chat allows Kay to briefly distract an enemy who discovers her in a tight spot and use that time to incapacitate them, and Keep talking does the same thing for multiple enemies.
I know someone is more situational, but gives you the opportunity to pick up rare gear. It allows Kay to access the “personal requests” tab of some merchants, even if she has a bad reputation with the Syndicate, and she can trade specific items for gear you can’t find anywhere else.
Selo – The Mechanic
Selo, the speeder mechanic, might be the second expert you unlock, but only two of his abilities are worth getting early on. Smoke bomb allows Kay to create distractions, block lines of sight, and quickly escape from nearby enemies, which is brilliant, and The scoundrel’s purse gives Kay an extra slot for Bacta Vials and Grenades, which is essential.
Aila – The Slicer
Most of Aila’s Slicer abilities are considered “useful but not essential”, with the exception of her starting skill, Cutting kit
The Slicing Kit allows Kay to interact with certain Imperial terminals to extract data, clear her wanted status, open security doors, and turn off poorly placed security cameras. It makes life so much easier, so be sure to complete Aila’s information before leaving Toshara.
Electroshock prod
Unlocking the next expert takes a bit of time and requires some story progression, whether or not you follow ND-5’s advice and visit Tatooine first. So before you head to Tatooine, we recommend complete the story mission on Akiva and free Gedeek to unlock the Temmin family intelligence chain. Follow that, complete Wexley’s quest, and when you can, unlock the Electroshock proda device that allows Kay to use stealth attacks on elite enemies.
Deathtroopers, the little pig guards in Jabba’s palace, and any enemies marked yellow during Kay’s adrenaline attacks count as elites, and you can’t subdue them with melee or stealth attacks – unless you have the boost.
Quint – The Gunslinger
Quint, the Tatooine gunslinger, is also worth unlocking early on. You may not need Kay’s adrenaline attack often in the early game, but as you progress, you’ll gain the ability to take out multiple enemies at once with Quint’s attack. Mastering the Adrenaline Rush
You may want to do a few tasks to get on the Hutts’ good side first. The Tatooine main quest sends Kay to Hutt territory, and Quint’s intelligence chain sends her back on Hutt territory. If she is seen or starts a fight while her reputation is “bad” or lower, she will lose even more face with the Hutts and will have to make up for it with additional contracts.
It’s much easier to just be on good terms, to be able to navigate and do what you need to do without any problems.
