Diablo 4’s endgame envisions a lot of activities for players who have already gone through the game’s main quests, from special enemies that spawn randomly in the Sanctuary to more challenging dungeons.
Now, to help you better understand everything that needs to be done after rolling the game credits, we have prepared this guide explaining all the Diablo 4 endgame activities.
On this page:
Diablo 4 Endgame World Boss Explained
One of the main activities you can perform once you reach the Endgame is to hunt down World Bosses. There are a total of 3 World Bosses that can spawn in Sanctuary: Ashava The Pestilent, Avarice The Gold Cursed, and Wandering Death.
Although there is no set time for each boss to appear, it seems that they appear every six hours. Either way, be sure to check your map for a World Boss sign that also shows how long the boss has left to spawn. Each world boss encounter has a time limit to complete, so it’s important to be prepared.
An encounter against a World Boss is a challenge for which you need the help of other players because they are extremely powerful creatures. All the work to defeat a world boss is worth it because it can drop not only legendary items but unique items as well. The type and rarity of the drops depends on the world level you are playing.
Diablo 4 Endgame Whispers of the Dead explained
Once you have completed the campaign, the Whispers of the Dead System is unlocked. This is the basic system of your game loop in Diablo 4’s Endgame. It consists of completing missions in Sanctuary to collect better loot.
In the world map, you will see red and pink symbols in some regions. These are the Whispers of the Dead missions. They stay active for a certain amount of time, and completing one of them rewards you with Grim Favors. Missions are simple in general and each type rewards you with a number of boons (dungeons give you 5 boons while missions that require you to kill enemies only give 1 boon).
Your objective here is to complete enough missions to collect 10 Grim Favors. Next, you must visit the Whispering Tree in Hawezar. By talking to him, you can exchange 10 favors for one of the boxes the tree gives you. Boxes give you a type of equipment as indicated in their name. There is always a chance that a piece of legendary gear will drop in the box.
Diablo 4 Endgame Nightmare Dungeons Explained
After you start completing Whispers of the Dead missions and running dungeons, you have the option to drop items called Nightmare Seal. You need it to enter a modified version of a dungeon.
By going to your Consumables tab in the Character menu, you can use the item to turn the dungeon into a Nightmare Dungeon. Each seal has a level and a list of affixes that function as modifications – cold damage-dealing monsters, for example – that you have to deal with in the Nightmare dungeon. In the description of the sigil, there is also the Dungeon in which it must be used.
Besides affixes, in Nightmare Dungeons you have a limit on how many times you can die. But the effort to complete one is well worth it, as you can drop some awesome items while doing so.
Diablo 4 Endgame Helltide Events Explained
Another type of activity that is unlocked once you reach the Endgame part of Diablo 4 is the Helltide events. These are timed events that players play in the World Tier 3 can participate in breeding better pieces of equipment.
Periodically, a Helltide will appear in one of the Sanctuary regions and will last for an hour. When this happens, you can complete missions in the area or just kill enemies, which are stronger during the event. Either way, you can collect Aberrant Ash, a special currency that’s dropped by enemies and found in areas where the event takes place.
Aberrant ash are spent to open special chests found in the Helltide area. Each chest costs a different amount of Cinders and rewards you with a specific type of gear. So you can open a leg chest by spending 75 Cinders or save 150 to open a weapon chest. It is important to keep in mind that a chest can only be opened once per Helltide, which means that if another player opens a chest before you can do so, you won’t be able to spend any more ashes on it. There is however more than one chest of the same type per Helltide.
The challenge in Helltide events is not just to survive but to keep your ashes. These are only valid during the Helltide in which they were collected. Once the event ends or you leave the area, all of your remaining outlier ash disappears. On top of that, half of the ashes you have are lost in case you die.
Diablo 4 Endgame PvP Fields of Hatred explained
Now, if what you’re looking for is the ability to test your skills against other players, you should go for Fields of Hate, Diablo 4’s PvP areas. One of the fields is located in Alzuda and the other in Denshar. Both areas are in Kehjistan.
In the fields of hate you can complete missions or kill enemies to collect seeds of hate, a currency used in towns you find in both areas to buy special items, like armor for your mount. But, in this area, you can activate the mark for blood, which allows you to attack other players. To die in the fields of hate leads to dropping all the seeds one had. Any player can get seeds dropped by others.
It is important to know that although these areas are intended for PvP, you do not necessarily need to fight other players. However, they can kill if they activate the bloodmark, even if you haven’t. At the same time, remember that your hate seeds disappear if you leave PvP areas.
