The big blizzard is a main story quest in Disney Valley of Dreamswhich continues the story of Pillars and gives you the option to add Olaf to your vale.
This Disney Dreamlight Valley quest will have you visit the Frosted Heights biome, and in order to complete The Great Blizzard you will need to find three specific gemswhich we have listed below.

How to start The Great Blizzard quest in Disney Dreamlight Valley
To begin The Great Blizzard quest in Disney Dreamlight Valley, you must have downloaded Major Update 3 – The Festival of Friendship and unlocked Frosted Heights, which requires both 10,000 Dreamlight and access to the Forest of valor.
If you meet these conditions, a blizzard will blow down the valley from the Frosty Heights. If not, but you’ve already unlocked Frosted Heights, make sure Major Update 3 has been downloaded – you should get a blizzard cutscene once this has happened.
Once these requirements are met, your first task in The Great Blizzard quest is to talk to Merlin.
He suspects dark magic is afoot and the way to stop it is to restore the pillar in Frosty Heights. Unfortunately, said pillar’s orb disappeared before the oblivion even happened, so Merlin suggests you search the blizzard for the source of the disturbance.
Location of Frosted Heights Clues for the Great Blizzard at Disney Dreamlight Valley
Now is the time to visit the Frosted Heights!
No matter which staircase you take up high, you’ll want to head east once you get there. Continue until you reach the well, at which point you will need to head north, past the pillar, until you reach a stone door embedded in the cliff.
Interact with this door to open it and enter. This is where you’ll find Olaf hanging out in a warped room with weird squirrels.
Scary Squirrel Locations at Disney Dreamlight Valley
After talking to Olaf, you’ll have to track down the creepy squirrels that stole his nose and pimples. That means it’s time to get back into the blizzard! If, however, you’ve been following the story of Disney’s Dreamlight Valley, you might want to collect the journal pages scattered around this room.
There are four creepy squirrels to find and they are all located in Frosted Heights. These squirrels are, despite the blizzard, easy to spot thanks to the clouds of black smoke they emit as they move.
Once you find a squirrel, you will need to hunt it until the “Check” interaction appears. At this point, you will be able to catch the squirrel and the body part it stole.
We found the squirrels in the following places:
- Near the pillar in Frosted Heights, in the area almost above the pond in the southeast corner
- To the right of the pond in the southeast corner of Frosted Heights
- Near the well in Frosted Heights
- Near Goofy’s Stall in Frosted Heights
After catching all four squirrels, return to the secret chamber and bring back Olaf’s body parts.
The Great Blizzard Causing Water Particles in Disney’s Dreamlight Valley Explained
Olaf is still missing his arms in Disney Dreamlight Valley and that’s a problem, as he was holding the orb you need for The Great Blizzard quest. He suggests talking to Elsa as she might know how to access water’s memories since water might know where Olaf’s arms are. (Let’s just roll with it…)
It’s important to note that we had already unlocked Elsa before starting The Great Blizzard quest, so if you haven’t already, you may need to unlock Elsa from the castle.
Elsa reveals that your royal watering can has the ability to bring out memories from water. This means you now need to visit the pillar in the Frosty Heights where you will find a pool of shimmering water particles.
Using your watering can on this pool will create a vision of The Forgotten stealing the orb. After watching it, go back to Elsa and tell her what you saw before going back to Olaf in the secret room.
There you will have to use the watering can both on the sparkling water particles found near the table and on the dark portal at the back of the room.
After watching these visions, talk to Olaf again to start fixing the portal. The first step is to find the book on the dark portals.
For us, it was the white paper near the big pile of books, but it was also the third book we picked up. Either way, keep picking up books until you find the right one, then talk to Olaf again.
How to Make a Dreamlight Prism in Disney Dreamlight Valley
Your next task in The Great Blizzard of Disney Dreamlight Valley quest is to create a Dreamlight Prism.
To do this, you will need a crafting bench and the following resources:
- 10 Glass
- 5 Purified Nightshard
- 3 broken prism
The three shattered prisms can be found in the secret room you and Olaf are in; one is from Olaf, the second by the wardrobe, and the third by the table.
For Purified Night Fragments, you will need 25 Night Fragments and 5 Dream Fragmentswith a craft bench.
The easiest way to find Nightshards is to use your shovel on the various digging hotspots that litter the valley. It might also net you a Dream Shard, but these can also be found by feeding creatures and removing Night Thorns.
If you don’t want to spend your time looking for hotspots to dig, you can craft Nightshards using Onyx at any crafting bench.
Finally, you will need 50 sand and 10 coal orewith a crafting bench, to craft the required amount of glass.
While coal ore can be easily found through mining, collecting sand can be a time-consuming activity. Indeed, although there may be piles of sand on the beach waiting for you, the main way to collect it is to dig on the beach. You’ll discover other crafting materials while doing this, such as seashells, so it’s a good idea to bring some food with you, as you may have to dig for a while.
After collecting the resources needed to craft the Dreamlight Prism, you can find it in the Functional Items tab when using any crafting bench.
Now that you’ve created the prism, it’s time to return to the secret chamber and place it on the pedestal in the center of the room.
Disney Dreamlight Valley’s Great Blizzard Gems Explained
With the Dreamlight Prism in place, your next task in Disney Dreamlight Valley’s The Great Blizzard quest is to figure out which gems are missing from the other pedestals and replace them.
The gems you need are Amethyst, Citrine and Emerald.
Luckily, you only need to find one gem of each for this quest, but as it can take a while to find gems, we recommend bringing a good amount of food with you, so that you don’t constantly return to your home. .
While each gem can be found in a specific valley biome, it’s also possible that you can find them in the Vitalys Mines in the Sunny Plateau.
Amethyst Location
Amethysts can spawn in mining sites in the Frosted Heights and Forgotten Lands. If you see purple shards in a rock, or if they appear while you’re mining, there’s a good chance that rock contains an amethyst.
citrine location
Citrines can spawn in mining sites located in Glade of Confidence and Sunshine Pad. Rocks with orange shards, or those that said shards appear while you mine, are lucky to contain a Citrine.
Emerald location
Emeralds can be mined from the mine sites in the Forest of Valor and Glade of Trust. If a rock has green shards, or if those shards appear when mined, there is a good chance that this mine site currently contains an Emerald.
After finding the three gems, you must, once again, return to the secret chamber in Frosted Heights.
Your next task is to place the gems on the plinths leading to the portal, the correct locations being:
- Right of the red pedestal – Amethyst
- To the left of the blue base – Citrine
- Right of the yellow base – Emerald
With the gems placed correctly, there is only one thing left for you to do to collect the orb.

How to Get the Orb in Disney Dreamlight Valley’s The Great Blizzard Quest
With the portal now working, all you need to do is interact with it to whisper a secret and you’ll automatically pick up the orb you need to complete The Great Blizzard quest.
Now you need to talk to Olaf again to return that arm and bring the orb to the pillar in Frosted Height to put it back in its place.
Once done, the biome will return to normal and you will only need to talk to Olaf one last time to complete the quest.
For completing The Great Blizzard quest, you will be rewarded with the ability to interact with Olaf like any other valley dweller, and you will receive the Scary Squirrel creature companion.
Olaf, however, wasn’t the only new character added as part of Major Update 3 – The Festival of Friendship – as you can now get Mirabel in Disney Dreamlight Valley!
