Dragon Tree Sentinel is just one of many optional bosses that Elden Ring offers the player to conquer.
You can find the Draconic Tree Sentinel just outside the northern entrance to Lyndell, Royal Capital, and you’ll need to defeat this boss if you want to get to the current town.
While you can take on the Draconic Tree Sentinel on your own, it’s an absolute beast, we’d advise using some co-op for the tough fight ahead, or even a summon spirit ash to help you kill the boss.

How to prepare for Draconic Tree Sentinel
Preparing for the Draconic Tree Sentinel is a case of picking your poison – literally. We found both Bleed based damage and poison damage work pretty well against the intimidating boss, and either – or even both – are perfectly viable options.
Additionally, a strong melee weapon is recommended for the Draconic Tree Sentinel. A shield is anything but useless in this fight, as the dodge roll will be your best friend to get out of tight spots.
So, we recommend that you take a powerful two-handed weapon into combat with you
In terms of armor, you want to strike a balance between physical defense and lightning defense.
We don’t recommend using fireproof armor, as the boss’s fire-based attacks are the easiest to dodge, and it’s the lightning attacks in his second phase that you’ll need to watch more carefully.
Draconic Tree Sentinel Cheats: How to Beat Draconic Tree Sentinel
In the first phase of Draconic Tree Sentinel, he will inflict heavy physical damage on you via powerful blows. The boss will rush at you from the top of his horse, crashing to the ground with his hammer and following close behind with a sweeping attack.
Be sure to time your dodges just before the first hit on the ground to avoid it completely, then be ready to dodge again when the boss returns for the next strike.
Draconic Tree Sentinel’s horse can actually breathe fire, of course. The boss will stand still when you’re a certain distance away, and his horse will send a fireball crawling towards you, which is actually quite easy to dodge if you strafe from the side.
Alternatively, if you drag past the dragon tree sentry for too long, the horse will breathe a steady stream of fire across the ground, and if you see the horse get back on its hind legs, start running immediately.
You’ll know you’ve entered the second phase of the Draconic Tree Sentinel fight when the boss will be holding his huge hammer up in the air, surrounded by a red lightning bolt.
Welcome to the second phase of the fight, where each physical attack from the boss hammer is now accompanied by an additional area of effect follow-up in the form of lightning bolts.
Getting your dodges right before was important, but now it’s even more important, because one misstep can be disastrous, even for a hardened veteran.
The Draconic Tree Sentinel will periodically pause during this phase and hold its hammer in the air, and you’ll start to see sparks emitted around the battlefield. These are signals indicating where the lightning will strike in about two seconds from now, so you’ll need to quickly move away from any areas where the sparks are.
You might even want to disable boss lock during this phase, as it’s arguably more important to be aware of your surroundings.
Once you’ve chosen a starting class and a starting souvenir item, you first need to figure out how to level up, how to respec, and how to use Ashes of War. Need direction from there? Try to find Golden Seeds, Holy Tears, Crystal Tears, Talismans, and some of our top early weapon and armor picks. If you’re nearing the end of the game, we can help you with the Haligtree Secret Medallion locations, the Millicent quest, and defeating the toughest bosses including Commander Niall, Morgott, Godskin Duo, Maliketh, and Malenia.
