fire giant is a mandatory boss that you will need to defeat to progress through the Elden Ring story.
The gigantic Fire Giant boss can be located in the eastern region of the Mountaintops of the Giants location in Elden Ring.
The fire giant fight can be a tough chore, so we recommend using some co-op for the tough fight ahead, or even summoning Spirit Ash to help you kill the boss.

How to prepare for the Fire Giant
Preparing for the Fire Giant boss fight is a fairly straightforward process. You’ll want to make sure you’ve taken all possible fire damage protection measures first, such as equipping the Flamedrake Talisman in your Talisman slots.
You’ll also want to make sure you have a heavy melee weapon handy, something like Bloodhound’s Fang works great for big swings and stacking damage over time.
Fire Giant Tips: How to Beat Fire Giant
The Fire Giant fight is all about timing your dodges to perfection. Take the opening salvo, for example. The Fire Giant will usually use its massive disc to send a tidal wave of snow towards you, but if you dodge roll forward in attack as soon as the Fire Giant advances its shield, you will completely avoid the attack.
Lock the fire giant’s left foot when you approach and smack it with a powerful melee weapon every chance you get. The Fire Giant will usually raise its leg, only to bring it down and the shield crashing to the ground a second later.
Launch a dodge roll as soon as the leg goes down, and you’ll dodge the attack again.
This fight is basically all about hacking the fire giant’s leg whenever possible. When you’ve dealt enough damage, the boss moans in agony and moves away from you, opening its own stomach to fire fire. Now the boss can throw fire orbs at you!
The trick here is that if the Fire Giant’s palm is facing up when he casts a fire spell, he will send a slow homing fire orb towards you, but if his palm is pointing downa rapid-fire spear will rush towards you.
Half healthyquite a transformation takes place, and the Fire Giant develops a whole new face (do the stomach face and the normal face have different opinions on things?).
If the Fire Giant falls to his knees with his two faces raised to the sky, go under immediatelyas he is about to send fireballs spitting at the battlefield around him.
Alternatively, the boss can breathe fire from its stomach either in a crouched position or on its side.
You want to immediately move away from the boss whenever this happens, as circling around the fire giant’s side won’t get you out of its range. The fight against the Fire Giant is one hell of a battle of attrition.
Old method of Fire Giant cheese
UPDATE (March 24, 2022): Following the March 2022 patch, it appears that the following cheese strategy no longer works. However, we’re keeping this here in case you’re playing an unpatched version – say if you have the game on a disc and haven’t updated yet.
ORIGINAL CHEESE STRATEGY: If you were looking for a way to cheese the Fire Giant, we have great news. There’s actually a technical way to get the boss to kill himself, through a little trickery with fall damage.
First, head to the back right corner of the arena atop Torrent, where the ground is higher than anywhere else on the battlefield. You’ll notice there’s a rocky platform protruding from the ground you’re standing on.
When the fire giant is within arm’s reach of you, jump from the arena around the rock platform in a clockwise direction and jump again using Torrent’s double jump function to land on the ground directly in front of you and below you.
Then run a few meters near the edge of the arena and you’ll find a small rocky outcrop behind which you can crouch to hide.
The fire giant will eventually climb onto the platform you were next to before, then jump towards you. Only when the boss lands will it take a metric ton of damage, kicking it into phase two of the fight.
You can actually start all over again, just like you did before, to kill the Fire Giant for good in phase two. Just repeat the whole process and you’ll be through this boss fight in no time.
Once you’ve chosen a starting class (like samurai) and a starting souvenir item, you first need to figure out how to level up, how to respec, and how to use Ashes of War and Attribute Scaling. Need direction from there? Try to find Golden Seeds, Holy Tears, Crystal Tears, Talismans, and some of our top weapon and armor picks. If you want to improve your prowess, we recommend farming runes – especially before facing Magrit, Godrick the grafted, Crystalian, Leonine Misbegotten, Starscourge Radahn (required as part of the Ranni quest), Red Wolf of Radagon and Renalla Queen of the Full Moon after finding the location of the Glittering Stone Key.
Fire Giant’s Reward
When you finally come across the fire giant, you’ll be rewarded with a massive 180,000 runes for the fight. Additionally, you will get the Memory of the Fire Giant object, which you can exchange at the round table for a spell or a weapon.
Well, it was certainly hard work, even if you’re trying to trick the Fire Giant into committing suicide. Now is the time to continue the main story path of Elden Ring and move on to a whole new area.
Next on the list of main bosses in order – assuming you follow the critical path – is Godskin Duo.
