Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth Platforms

Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth is a timed PS5 exclusive. However, as seen at the end of a Sony State of Play trailer, Rebirth is only a PS5 exclusive until May 29, 2024. This means we could see a PC or Xbox port in the future, but given that Remake still hasn’t been released. on Xbox, we are less confident that an Xbox version will be released.

Is Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth a sequel?

Yes, Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth is a sequel to Final Fantasy 7 Remake. While there is now a five-minute recap video to keep you up to date with the events of Remake (and will be available to watch from the Rebirth main menu), we recommend completing Remake before starting Rebirth if you want to fully appreciate it. the story.

How long is Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth?

Long.

According to an interview with the developers on the official PlaySation blog, “in terms of volume, the amount of side content in Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth is almost double that of the main quest content.”

Given that Remake’s story was around 30-40 hours long and its side content was around twice that, we estimate that Rebirth will take at least 80-100 hours if you participate in side activities. As Rebirth has more of an open world environment than Remake, we wouldn’t be surprised if your play time was even longer at the end of your playthrough.

Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth Gameplay Details

The developers described Final Fantasy 7 as a “multi-faceted world with a high degree of freedom”, i.e. an open-world game. So expect to spend a lot more time exploring the environment than in Remake’s Midgar.

To go along with this open world setting, there are plenty of ways to get around, including swimming, riding Chocobos, and using buggies. There is even a segway-like vehicle called a wheelie to use in the sunny Costa del Sol. Chocobos of different colors also have unique abilities that allow them to climb walls, fly, and sniff out hidden treasures.

You will also be able to collect raw materials and use an item transmuter to craft new items, armor and accessories thanks to an all-new crafting system. The more you craft, the higher your craftsmanship, which unlocks new formulas for obtaining rare items.

As for the combat, it is very similar to Remake, and still has Active and Classic combat modes, allowing you to choose between direct control of the action in real time or focusing on abilities via menus with automatic combat.

However, synergy is something new. As described by Ed Nightingale in his overview “Synergistic attacks fall somewhere between abilities and limit overruns. Each ability use adds a synergy point to a character; Once two characters have accumulated enough points (usually two each), they can unleash a synergistic attack: a flashy pairing that does decent damage. It encourages players to regularly switch between characters, with synergy attacks acting as a mini-reward. There are additional synergy skills accessible by guarding that re-match characters, but are less effective.”

Everything we know about Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth

If you want to know what it’s like to play, check out our Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth preview. For everything else, here’s what we know about Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth:

  • Expect more twists and turns – Producer Yoshinori Kitase confirmed that “For parts 2 and 3, we are able to give fans the excitement of wondering which parts will be 100% faithful to the original – and where the new elements will be added.” The second trailer has already revealed some big differences, but don’t worry, the overall story will still tie into Advent Children.
  • You can enjoy it even if you haven’t played Remake – In an X post (formerly Twitter), the confirmed developers that they have “made preparations” so that players can “fully enjoy” Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth without playing Remake first. We suspect they were talking about the recent 5-minute Remake recap that will also be included in Rebirth’s main menu, but a separate press release also claimed that Rebirth was a “standalone adventure.”
  • The physical version comes with two discs – Apparently Rebirth is so big that a disk can’t hold it.
  • The golden saucer returns – Everyone’s favorite amusement park is finally here in Rebirth, with 3-D Battler, Chocobo Racing and G-Bike confirmed so far, but the snowboarding mini-game from the original has been removed. Some mini-games will take place during the main story in the middle of the game, while others are side content, but you are free to return to the Gold Saucer at any time. New mini-games and harder difficulty modes are unlocked as the main story progresses.

  • More mini-games – Aside from Gold Saucer, other new mini-games are coming to Rebirth, including Playing the Piano, a new card game called Queen’s Blood, and Moogle Mischief, in which you have to return the Moogles to their mogstools.
  • New summons – Odin, Alexander, Titan, Bahamut Arisen, Phoenix and Kujata are confirmed so far. Some summons from Remake also return. As revealed in a PlayStation Blog interview, there will also be “new expanded side content based on a summon that wasn’t in the original Final Fantasy 7 and much more.”
  • The story ends at The Forgotten Capital, but Wutai is ignored – In the same PlayStation Blog interview mentioned above, it was confirmed that Wutai would be in the third game instead.
  • New materialSpare change allows you to do more damage the more Gil you throw, Comet it rains comets from the sky to damage enemies, Focus on precision defense improves Perfect Defense’s timing, gives it more stagger damage, and helps block binding attacks. Then there is Level increasewhich grants a level corresponding to the subject with which it is associated, and Automatic broadcast, which automatically uses the material with which it is associated. The latest new material we know of combines two types of material to allow you to use both without taking up two slots. For example, Lightning and Wind matter grants you both Thunder and Aero.

That’s everything we know about Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth! I hope you enjoy Cloud’s next adventure.
