It doesn’t matter if you take over one of the richest clubs in the world or Premiership relegation fighters like Nottingham Forest and Wolves.
Plus, it’s a way to keep your board happy and add extra players to your squad, whether they’re worthy to start right away or be used on rotation.
They won’t be household names, but that’s where the right coaching and squad setup can help them reach their potential heights and become valuable first-team selections.

How did we choose our best free agents and our best players?
The way we chose our favorite freebies and perk buys was to select the appropriate ability ratings for their position (e.g. tackle for defenders) with a score of at least 14 and more than 10 in two other criteria.
Many players have exceeded these scores, so this list is just our favorites in FM23.
We also have an age cap of 33, so you can be sure to get at least a few years from the choices below.
The first is Vincent Company. He’s a goalkeeper in Gandia who has handling, reflex and positioning ratings of (up to) 18, and an aerial range score of 16, so he could be an excellent first or second keeper choice.
Alternatives include More and Kitethe latter being completely free.
For the defense, Mateo Musacchio is available again here and its numbers are excellent. With a playing history including Villareal, Milan and Lazio, as well as international experience, he could be the seasoned commander you could need at the back.
Kelechi Nwakali also has international experience and scores top marks in passing, technique, fitness and agility, making him a bargain for an attacking midfielder.
The same can be said for Eugene in Zaragoza. Ryan Wood has plenty of experience in the second tier of English football, so if you’re into and are trying to get local favorites like Huddersfield promoted, this is an ideal buy. Gomez is your best bet though, with an abundant playing history at Athletic Bilbao.
Before, Matej Vydra played in the top flight with Burnley as well as at international level with the Czech Republic, making him the definition of a great gift.
At 30, he could make a great member of a strike team paired with any youngster you might already have on your team. It is the same for Abel Hernández and its contribution to Uruguay.
In short, there are many interesting options!
