Purple Grass in Genshin Impact is a local specialty material found throughout Liyue, including Liyue’s newest region, Chenyu Vale.
It is used as an ascension material for Baizhu, Qiqi, and Xinyan, but the material might also be needed to upgrade other characters in Genshin Impact in the future.
Unfortunately, you can’t farm Violetgrass indefinitely, as there is a two-day respawn time, so we’ll cover where to find Violetgrass locations And where to buy Violetgrass below, so you can get as many as possible on a single farming route.

What is Violetgrass used for in Genshin Impact?
Purple Grass is a purple flower commonly found on the sides of cliffs throughout the Liyue region. It is used as an ascension material for Baizhu, Qiqi and Xinyan, and is also used as an ingredient in some Liyue dishes. Violetgrass even grows in Chenyu Vale, the most recent area added to Liyue in version 4.4.
In total, there are 231 Violetgrass locations in Genshin Impact, making it one of the most abundant ascension materials in the game, but since they grow on cliffs, it involves a bit of climbing to get to in Violetgrass. For this reason, some places are better than others for growing violets.

Genshin Impact Violetgrass Locations
If you have Yanfei or Qiqi, we recommend adding them to your exploration team so that Violetgrass locations are marked on your mini-map when you are near them. Bringing Nahida if you have her is also a big help, as her skill allows you to collect materials from afar if you hold down her button.

The Gulf
There are 41 Violetgrass to find on the surface of The Chasm, and this is where we recommend starting your Violetgrass farming, as it is the quickest farming route.
Remember to use the teleport waypoints and the Statue of the Seven for easier access to Violetgrass. However, if you want to get them all, start in the north, then collect the Violetgrass to the east, then collect the ones in the outer south before heading to the Western Violetgrass clump.
Mount Tianheng, Linju Pass and Dunyu Ruins
There are 41 Violetgrass to find in this general area east of Liyue Harbor and west of The Chasm.
For a quick farming route, we recommend liberally using the teleport waypoints and the Statue of the Seven here, as most of the large clumps of purple grass are found very close to them. You will get at least 23 Violetgrass from doing this, including the glider trip to the Seven Flowers under Mount Tianheng.
Mingyun Village
There are 31 Violetgrass to find around Mingyun Village, which is east of Wangshu Inn and west of Dragonspine Mountain.
We find that the purple grass near the southern Statue of the Seven is the easiest place to farm if you’re in a hurry. However, if you want to get them all, start in the north, then work your way down to the locations to the west before collecting the Violetgrass to the east.
Qingyun Peak
There are 18 Purple Herbs to find on the small cliffs connected by bridges near Qingyun Peak, west of Wangshu Inn and southeast of Chenyu Valley.
We like farming here because the Violetgrass is pretty easy to spot and reach, but be careful, you can’t take any shortcuts using the teleport waypoints, it’s just a big expanse of bridges and small cliffs to Browse.
Qingce Village
There are 21 Violetgrass to find around Qingce Village, which is located north of Wangshu Inn and east of Chenyu Vale.
Again, this isn’t really the quickest Violetgrass patch to farm, but there are other Ascension materials in the area, like Jueyun Chili, that may be worth your time if you want to stock up. If you want to farm all the purple grass in Qingce Village, we recommend starting from the north, then moving down and then east.
Yours, Val
There are 26 Violetgrass to find in the southern area of Chenyu Vale, which is west of Qingce Village and north of Mount Aocang. We don’t really recommend farming Violetgrass in the northern zone unless they are very close to teleport waypoints.
The best way to farm Chenyu Vale is to cycle through both lines of Violetgrass. One route begins near the teleport waypoint in Yaodie Valley, while the other is just outside the southeast area of Chenyu Vale.
Where to buy purple grass in Genshin Impact
There are three places where you can buy Violetgrass in Genshin Impact:
- Verr Goldet in Wangshu Inn (Liyue)
- Herbalist Gui at Bubu Pharmacy (Liyue)
- Babak in Port Ormos (Sumeru)
Verr Goldet can be found inside Wangshu Inn, just down the stairs from the teleport waypoint at the top. She sells five Violetgrass and they cost 1,000 Mora each. Its stock is updated every three days.
Herbalist Gui can be found inside Bubu Pharmacy on the northwest tip of Liye Harbor. He also sells five Violetgrass costing 1,000 Mora each. Its stock is updated every three days.
Babak is on the east side of Port Ormos. Go down southeast from the teleport waypoint near the Port Ormos bridge to find it. Just like the other two merchants, he sells five Violetgrass costing 1,000 Mora each, and his stock is replenished every three days.
In addition to purchasing Violetgrass, you can also buy Violetgrass seeds and grow them in your garden in the Serenitea pot you receive from Madame Ping. You need to grow Violetgrass seeds in the “A Path of Valor: Lush Glebe” furnishing field.
To obtain Violetgrass Seeds, you must either purchase them from Tubby in the Kingdom Depot inside your Serenitea Pot, or collect Violetgrass with the “Seed Dispensary Gadget” equipped. Tubby sells five Violetgrass seeds for five kingdom currencies each, and their stock is refreshed once a week. Violetgrass seeds take two days and 22 hours to fully grow.
Violetgrass Respawn Time
Like other Liyue specialties, when you grow them in the wild, Violetgrass takes two days to reappear.
This can make farming Violetgrass a bit tedious, but in two to three days (depending on how many people you started farming with), you should have enough to fully ascend a character – so much that you have his other ascension materials. At the time of writing, only Baizhu, Qiqi, and Xinyan need Violetgrasss as Ascension materials.
You can also try gardening, visit another player’s world, or buy Violetgrass while you wait.
