In Elden Ring, Astel, Naturalborn of the Void is a boss located at the end of the Great Cloister, and defeating it is vital to completing Ranni’s quest. While this is technically an optional boss, you’ll want to defeat Astel to get one of Elden Ring’s six endings.
Strictly speaking, you can actually reach Astel in Elden Ring by resting in a coffin deep in the cloister. This in turn is at the end of the Lake of Rot, which is at the end of Noksstella, the Eternal City. It’s a real disaster, isn’t it?
Luckily, we’re here to help you beat it with our Elden Ring Astel, Naturalborn of the Void boss walkthrough.

How to beat Astel Naturalborn of the Void in Elden Ring
Here is some information you need to know before fighting Astel:
- Boss status: Legendary opponent
- Optional: Yes (except for completing Ranni’s quest)
- Nearest grace site: Great Cloister
- Multiplayer: Yes
- Summon spirits: Yes
- Rewards: 80,000 runes, Memory of the Natural Born
The first thing you should do is quickly approach the boss so you can fight it properly. This has the right bonus that you avoid his tail, which he will use to hit you if you’re too far away. You can anticipate this tail attack by watching how Astel moves, as he will stretch upwards a bit before releasing his tail. Dodge at the last moment and continue running towards Astel.
Astel also likes to open the fight with a laser beam from his mouth, so the same applies: dodge diagonally to the side with the roll, avoid taking damage, and sprint at his head.
After a few hits to the head, you’ll see Astel’s pincers begin to twitch, accompanied by purple lightning. Get under the pincers at the last moment and you have a great window of time for more headshots.
You can also attack Astel on his shoulder, arms or body, but the head should be your main target. It might also be worth working with jump attacks, especially since Astel’s head isn’t exactly difficult to hit.
If you are quick enough in your attack and best case scenario, land a few hits. You can also break his position and have the opportunity to land a critical blow.
Basically, you can follow this tactic all the way. It gets a little more complicated, but we’ll come back to that in detail.
Astel still has a few tricks up his sleeve. If he lifts his upper body while lightning flashes around him, get to safety. Astel is about to hit the ground and harm anything nearby.
Another nasty attack to watch out for: Astel stands up and creates flashing orbs in all six of his hands, and uses them to crash to the ground. Anyone who fails to get to safety in time will suffer heavy damage.
Sometimes Astel only performs this attack with one side of the body and does it without moving, that is, much more suddenly than in the six-armed variant.
Astel will also use his wipe attack with his arms if you stand in front of him for too long. This leaves behind a mist that explodes after a second.
If Astel charges a light orb above his body, he will immediately teleport elsewhere. You’ll take moderate damage if you’re close to it during this time, but you’ll need to catch up to it first – and since it’ll be further away, you’ll need to dodge its laser beam and tail attacks. again like you did at the beginning.
At around 50% of his life bar, Astel still teleports and opens a few portals in the air, from which dozens of meteors emerge. Dodge them as best you can and try to get close to the boss again.
Keep headbutting, avoid the pincers, remember jump attacks when the opportunity arises, and the guy is good to go.
The reward for defeating Aster is 80,000 runes and Echo of the Spawn.
After victory, there is a Site of Grace, and behind it the passage to the Moonlight Altar region in the southern region of Liurnia.
Well done for beating Aster!
