Silent Hill 2 has its share of bizarre monsters, and the Flesh lip the boss is no exception.
Flesh Lip is the second boss in Silent Hill 2 Remake and has two main phases to contend with (besides a generally disgusting aesthetic). This boss fight is thrown at James, and if you haven’t played the original Silent Hill 2, it probably took you by surprise as well.
Here are some tips to help you give Flesh lip a big lip in Silent Hill 2.
How to beat Flesh Lip in Silent Hill 2
You meet Flesh Lip when you finally reach Laura on the third floor of Brookhaven Hospital, at the end of the section. Before heading to Laura’s house, make sure you’ve thoroughly explored the hospital and collected all available resources and collectibles, as you won’t be able to return once this fight begins.
When you finally find Laura, a cutscene plays in which she and James have a seemingly harmless conversation about Mary, with Laura claiming that she met James’ late wife in the hospital the year before. James loses his temper and accuses Laura of lying – but what’s the harm in that, right? Laura then tells James (aka Fartface) that she hid a letter from Mary in another room. She leads him into the room, tells him she’s hidden behind a pipe on the back wall, and locks him. Apparently, this misleading remark was not so well received.
But James is not alone. You’re immediately thrown into a fight with Flesh Lip, a fleshy monster in a cage (with lips where his butt should be) who falls from the ceiling.
Phase one
In the first phase, it is important to keep moving forward. Flesh Lip lingers above the ceiling tiles and drops its cage on you. if you stay in one place too long.
Collect resources from the windowsill and reload as you continue running – ideally clockwise around the room. Flesh Lip will shatter the ceiling near where you are, so watch for the collapsing ceiling tiles and listen for its movements above you. Make sure to dodge if the cage lands on or right next to you. Also note that the cage wobbles when it falls, so it can damage you if you’re in range. Likewise, if you get too close to the dangling creature, it will come after you, so be prepared to dodge if you’re fighting it in close combat.
When the cage falls, aim with a ranged weapon (if possible) at the boss’s dangling legs or the arm he uses to hold himself on the ceiling. The legs are easier to hit, and it’s definitely worth using your shotgun (there are shotgun shells on the windowsill) – but the pistol or steel pipe are fine otherwise. If you are a good shooter, aim for the arm, because if you damage it enough, the monster will fall from the ceiling, allowing you to attack it for a few moments while it is immobilized. Do not aim at his body when he is caged, as your shots will be deflected.
After landing several shots (five or six shots for me), you’ll notice that the monster’s cage begins to fall, allowing you to target its torso. Go to town punching its fleshy middle until the Flesh Lip’s cage structure opens, giving the creature four deadly metal arms to sail across the ground (and hit you).
Phase two
The Flesh Lip is released from its cage – and more dangerous than ever! Now the creature can chase you on the ground and slither up to the ceiling.
Flesh Lip Phase Two has a few moves to watch out for. This agile monster can take hits you fatally with its arms If you get too close, keep your distance and shoot its fleshy middle or legs from a distance – avoiding the metal plate side of its body. If you see him raise his arms near you, dodge him aside as he has impressive range.
This creature can also drop a debilitating cry. You’ll know he’s about to do it because he swings his torso forward before shouting into the house. So if you see him swatting his four legs and swinging his body, dodge as far as possible.
Another of Flesh Lip’s main attacks sees him climb to the ceiling, then descend and slide its metal arms hoping to surprise you. Just keep moving so he doesn’t get the chance.
Flesh Lip is very fast, so sprint and dodge to keep as much distance between you and him as possible. When phase two begins, the monster destroys some walls, creating a larger battle space. Make sure you make the most of this extra space and scavenge resources from the new area.
With more ammo at your disposal, continue sprinting to stay as far away from the creature as possible (maybe even run lengthwise across the room), and when you have enough distance, shoot its fleshy parts. Again, the shotgun is best for this, but you can also use the pistol. Always use ranged weapons when you can, and if you’re low on ammo, be very careful attacking with melee weapons. Run, hit the monster, then dodge – and watch out for the attacks above.
Tip: If you want to make sure you land your shots, increase the Magnetism in your Aim Assist settings, as this could help you save time and ammo.
Once you’ve damaged Flesh Lip enough, the grotesque thing will fall off – and James will be in for another surprise.
Good luck beating Flesh Lip!
