How to beat Pyramid Head in Silent Hill 2
After solving the clock puzzle in the Blue Creek Apartments, head to the door with an “S” on it and enter it. Inside is a room containing some old rusty cages and a large metal door at the far end – with our friend Pyramid Head standing in front of it – and he’s not very happy to see James Sunderland.
It’s a timed boss fight. You don’t need to beat Pyramid Head but it is necessary survive long enough for him to leave. How long it will take depends on whether you damage it or not. I found that largely avoiding Pyramid Head and only hitting it two or three times meant the timer lasted. three minutesbut when I tried to inflict more damage on him, the fight lasted more than two minutes.
I advise avoid Pyramid Head during this fight as much as possible to avoid wasting precious ammo. After all, a three-minute break with the mannequins and characters lying down is welcome. If you’re handy with a melee weapon and impatient, maybe you can hit him with a few shots to speed things up a bit. If you’re very impatient and don’t care much about ammo, you can take on the big guy with a few pop shots – but I advise using your handgun rather than your shotgun, as that ammo is more readily available.
As soon as the fight starts, Pyramid Head will start walking towards you, dragging his sword with him. He may look slow now, but he’s very fast – and seems to get faster as the fight goes on. The main thing here is to make sure you keep your distance of this boss. Pyramid Head’s huge sword has more range than you think and does significant damage if it hits you, so try to stay at least two cage lengths away from him at all times.
I found the best way to stay away from him was to run in clockwise circles around the perimeter of the room wherever possible, while keeping tabs on where he was at all times. This can be difficult at times, between the rain and the darkness, so if you lose track of him, listen for the sound of his footsteps and his sword.
Remember, this sword has an impressive range, so stay as far away from him as possible and keep doing tricks until the time runs out. If you want to speed up the timer, get enough distance and then fire a few pistol shots at its body or legs – don’t try to shoot the pyramid’s head (for obvious reasons).
Another no-no is trying to hide behind cages and boxes in the room. The big purchase can easily break them, so there is no point. These obstacles can be useful though, as they can get you far enough away from Pyramid Head, but another downside is that you can easily find yourself caught in the corner of one of them, causing you difficulty. minced meat if the big guy is nearby. If he puts you in an awkward situation, try to avoid him.
The most important sound you listen to is the fog siren. Once the sound starts screaming, Pyramid Head walks towards the large door at the back of the room and a cutscene plays, showing him walking through the door and going off to ruin some other poor bastard’s day. More importantly, this means the door is now open for James to pass through.
Good luck beating (well, avoiding) Pyramid Head!
