THE Avatar of Scadutree is an optional boss in Elden Ring’s Shadow of the Erdtree DLC, but one you’ll want to fight if you want to collect all ten Memories in the enlargement. He’s also arguably one of the toughest bosses, mainly because you have to fight him more than once.
Its name may remind you of the Erdtree avatars found in the Midlands, but we think it more closely resembles the spirit of the Ulcerated Tree, albeit in the form of a giant killer sunflower that can also channel deadly holy attacks. It can also regenerate, meaning you’ll need more stamina than usual. For this reason, we recommend leaving this Remembrance pattern until much later.
But if you feel ready, this guide will give you all the information you need about how to beat the Scadutree avatar in Elden Ring Shadow of the Erdtree.

How to prepare for the Scadutree Avatar boss fight
The Scadutree avatar can be found on Scadutree Base, which is actually the arena for the entire fight. To access it, you must access it via the Sunken chapel in the Shadow Keep church area. The nearest Grace Site is called ‘Tree Worship Sanctuary‘, this is also where you can find the Rune of Marika.
Although this means that it is possible to face this boss as soon as you manage to reach the east side of Shadow Keep via the Church Quarter, given that it hits hard and has multiple phases (and one health bar for each), we recommend that you save this fight for much later in the game, or even until the end. Summoning one of Erdtree’s Spirit Ashes is also highly recommended. to help you last longer in the fight and so that you are not always targeted.
A melee build is best because you want to get close to deal the most damage to his sunflower head, but this boss is also weak to fire and magic damage.
His attacks cannot be parried and you cannot break his balance either, although it can still technically be staggered and punished at the end of each phase. The boss can cause accumulation of bleeding which can lead to very damaging blood loss when the gauge is full, so it is worth having Stop bolus consumables, the Bestial Constitution Spell Or Incantation of the Lord’s Help to prevent this from happening.
How to beat the Scadutree avatar
The Scadutree Base where you fight Scadutree Avatar is a fairly large arena, which poses some problems early in the fight. The first time you enter this area, the fight doesn’t begin until you reach the boss, which initially resembles a giant sleeping and withering sunflower. However, on subsequent attempts it will start with three ranged attacks with its thorny roots coming from the ground towards you as soon as you walk through the fog door.
These roots will accumulate bleeding status – and when three direct hits are enough to fill the bar and cause very damaging blood loss, you will want to avoid this at all costs. You can’t outrun or mitigate bleed buildup with a shield, and the tree trunks you see around the arena don’t make good hiding places, as those roots will tear them apart. However, you can dodge themso do it and quickly try to close the distance.
Once you approach the Scadutree Avatar, it will attack you with its long tree branches, either swinging them at you or simply hitting the ground. He will also hit you with his sunflower head. The latter is what you would prefer, because while it is tempting to try to stay underneath to avoid his attacks and then head towards the base, you will deal almost double damage when targeting the head.
So it’s better to bide your time, block or dodge these attacks then aim for the head when it is in range rather than simply swinging on its trunk.
Keeping a little distance will also be to your advantage when it comes charge a holy attack. When he is about to perform one of these attacks, he raises his head and charges a blast that produces a number of projectiles, a combination of light and shadow, that head towards you. As long as you watch for them and anticipate them, you can dodge them
When his health is exhausted, I’m not partying yet. Unfortunately you will have to do this fight him twice more. However, you will notice Avatar Scadutree collapsing while its sunflower head glows orange, similar to enemies who are staggering with a weak point. Get close to the head and you can deliver a damaging response. When his next phase comes, he will have 75% of his health rather than a new full bar.
Be warned that it will only stay in this folded position for a few seconds Ideally, you should therefore already be in front of him when you deal him your fatal blow. It’s also possible that the environment you’re fighting in will cause its head not to fall directly to the ground but slightly above it, meaning it will be out of range of a riposte. So if you miss the window, he will evaporate and then reappear with full health.
Second phase
For its second phase, Scadutree Avatar retains most of its original attacks but is also more aggressive. In particular, he can charge you three times in a row, which he will always do at the start of this phase. Fortunately, these can all be blocked with a shield with 100% physical blockand you will have time for the stamina gauge to recover before its subsequent charges.
His attacks are also considerably more thorny, always using the thorn-root ranged attack, while his combo tree branch strikes can end in a charged attack that ends with thorns sprouting from the ground nearby – all of this will also add to the build up bleeding. up.
Third phase
For its third phase, you will want to stay as far away from Avatar Scadutree as possible
He can trigger this attack again during this phase, and also has a variant where he explodes three times when he is close to agony. So while you want to get closer to attacks, If he suddenly stops moving and his chest starts glowing yellow, it’s up to you to get out of the way..
However, if you manage to inflict another critical hit on him at the end of his second phase, he will only have at least 75% of his health in this phase. Hopefully you also have enough healing flasks to get you through this, while your spirit ashes are still alive if you summoned one.
