How to Catch Outlier Fish in Dredge
If you want to catch an outlier fish in Dredge, you need to keep an eye out for fishing spots that give off green and gold sparkles. These sparkles will be easier to spot at night and in our experience more outlier fish also appear at night. Just keep an eye on your panic level…
Once you find a fishing spot with outlier fish, make sure you have a rod that allows fishing in that spot installed on your boat. You can’t fish in a shallow place if you don’t have a rod capable of fishing in shallow waters after all. If you’ve set up the rod but it’s been damaged, however, you can still fish there – you just won’t have access to any speed bonuses.
Now all you have to do is fish until you have caught the outlier fish. This may involve catching a number of regular fish until you find the outlier, but you can always discard those regular fish.
Remember to keep an eye out for the green and gold sparkles, because when they disappear, outlier fish will also disappear!
If you are looking for a specific type of outlier fish, be sure to check your Encyclopedia. Like all fish in Dredge, Aberrant Fish have their own page in this book that details their type (Abyssal etc.), when and where they spawn, and the gear you’ll need to catch them.
Dredge’s Outlier Fish Explained
Aberrant Fish are the mutated creatures that lurk beneath the sea waves in Dredge. Some have multiple heads, some don’t have a mouth or have bulging eyes – all of them are damn weird.
Almost all Dredge fish have at least one outlier variant and you can find them recorded in your encyclopedia – both having their own entry and being listed at the bottom of their regular form. So if you want to complete the Encyclopedia, be sure to catch weird fish and unlock abyssal and hadal fishing.
Aberrant fish also sell for more than regular fish, so it’s worth hunting them if you want to upgrade your boat or buy new gear.
Finally, outlier fish are also involved in a number of pursuits – what Dredge calls quests.
Catching your first Aberrant Fish will unlock the Grotesque Fish Pursuit, which when completed will unlock the Collector Relic Search Pursuit. This will have you scouring the sea for five relics, including the Music Box and the Ring.
You’ll also need to catch an Aberrant Fish to complete the Caught To Order pursuit for the Fishmonger in Greater Marrow.
Good luck catching outlier fish!
