Redman Freyja is one of the new NPCs you’ll encounter in Elden Ring’s Shadow of the Erdtree DLC. She has a strong connection to Radahn, one of the main bosses in Elden Ring from the base game, and who you had to kill to start Shadow of the Erdtree in the first place. A bit awkward, perhaps, but it’s this relationship with Radahn that forms the backbone of Freyja’s side quest.
Like many other characters you’ll meet in Shadow of the Erdtree, Freyja’s quest spans the entire length of the expansion. But there are times when it can grind to a halt if you’re not careful, preventing you from completing it and claiming the rewards. So to help you get there successfully, read on for our step-by-step guide on how to complete freyja’s quest in the Elden Ring DLC.

First Encounter – Where to Find Freyja
To begin with, Freyja is located on the Site of Grace’Three-way cross” in the cemetery plain. You’ll find it a short distance northwest of the burned ruins, and it’s easy to spot thanks to Miquella’s cross that is also there. Here’s Freyja’s precise location on the map below:
Talk to Freyja and she will tell you a bit more about herself, including that she once fought alongside Radahn in battle. Talk to her a second time and she will tell you talk with Hornsentwhich she calls her “stern little friend”, who is standing near the same Grace Site. Do so and he will give you a map showing the first handful of Miquella’s Crosses they found.
At this point you will have exhausted all of Freyja’s dialogue, so feel free to continue your journey through Gravesite Plain, or follow the map from Hornsent which will take you to where Ansbach and Moore are, as well as Belurat, Tower Settlement.
Second meeting
The second major point in Freyja’s quest comes after receiving the message “Somewhere, a great rune has shattered”, which happens when you approach Shadow Keep or enter Rauh’s base for the first time.
When this happens, the spell that previously bound all the NPCs together will have been broken, and Freyja in particular will begin to distrust her former friends. Return to her previous location in the Site of Grace’Three-way cross” and talk to him again to receive new dialogue options.
She will tell you that she is “going it alone” because she needs to find the answer to something. You will then have the opportunity to ask her “What do you plan to examine?” and she will reveal that it is the wish that Miquella once made with General Radahn. “I must know the nature of the wish,” she said.
Talk to him again and you will have the option to ask him “What if you became our enemy?“She’ll tell you not to worry, for she intends to stay true to her word. Yet as a warrior, she regrets not being able to cross swords with you and with Leda, Knight of the Needle, and Ansbach, for she would have loved to test each other’s mettle. It would have been “glorious” to meet on the battlefield as sworn enemies, she says – and, spoiler alert: if you manage to complete Freyja and Ansbach’s quests, then she will indeed get her wish.
For now, though, that’s all you have to say to Freyja for now, and she’ll leave Three-Path Cross to travel to her second location shortly after this conversation.
Third Encounter – The Shadow Dungeon
You will then meet Freyja in the Shadow Dungeon Specimen Warehouseon the site of grace’Warehouse, seventh floor‘. To access this upper level of the warehouse, you’ll need to enter from the eastern side of Shadow Keep, head through its church district, and then climb the warehouse’s maze of stairs as you head towards its main boss, Messmer the Impaler.
You’ll hear Freyja before you see her, and she’ll whisper to herself that she can’t understand the stone tablets she’s trying to decipher. Follow the sound of her voice and you’ll soon find her at the end of the room containing the Site of Grace.
Talk to her and she will tell you that she is busy trying to understand the meaning of the stone tablets she is looking at. She will also reveal that she would have liked to ask Ansbach to pass on some of his knowledge to her before they parted ways.
So it’s convenient that Ansbach is also here, on the first floor of the warehouse. Go talk to him. You’ll find him in a small room near the “Warehouse, First Floor” grace site, on the other side of the large animal statue.
NB: This is the point where both Freyja and Ansbach’s quests can end prematurely if you don’t follow the correct order of events, so make sure you do the following to continue both quests to completion:
- Talk to Freyja
- Talk to Ansbach and “Tell him about Freyja’s decision”
- Receive Ansbach’s letter from Freyja and deliver it to her.
- Retrieve the Secret Rite Scroll and give it to Ansbach
The last point is particularly important here, because if you give Ansbach the Secret Rite Scroll Before By speaking to Freyja, you may miss the opportunity to receive her letter for her, as Ansbach will leave Shadow Keep shortly after you give him the scroll.
Therefore, Make sure to speak to Freyja before returning the scroll to Ansbach, so you can continue both quests.
Once you have received Ansbach’s letter to Freyja, you can now decide whether or not to deliver it, and your decision here will affect the outcome of Freyja’s quest:
- Give the letter to Freyja: choosing this option will continue Freyja’s questShe will learn that Radahn’s soul “met an honorable end” when the war festival ended, but now Miquella wants to revive it. She is happy about the wish they made, and if you speak to her a second time, she will thank you and you will receive her. Golden Lion Shield. After that, Freyja will move to her final location.
- Don’t give the letter to Freyja: choosing this option will Freyja’s Quest Dropout. Unable to discover the true nature of Miquella and Radahn’s wish, she will remain in Shadow Keep until the end of the game. You can still receive her Golden Lion Shield by returning to its location after you complete the game, but you will miss out on all other possible rewards from her questline.
Of course, if you want to complete Freyja’s quest, you will need to deliver the letter to her. Once this step is completed, Freyja will disappear from the Shadow Keep and you will not encounter her again until the end of the game.
Fourth and final meeting
Your final encounter with Freyja will take place in Enir-Ilim, where you will have to fight alongside her. Knight of the Needle LedaFinally, Freyja’s wish to cross swords with you has finally come true, and she seems genuinely excited to see what you’re made of.
Unfortunately, Freyja does not survive this fight, and you will find her corpse at the end of the battle arena. Interact with her body and you will be able to collect the following rewards:
- Freyja’s Greatsword
- Freyja’s Helm
- Freyja’s Armor
- Freyja’s Gauntlets
- Freyja’s Strikes
This concludes Freyja’s quest, and all that remains to be done now is to defeat the final boss of Shadow of the Erdtree.
