Riya is an Elden Ring NPC you first encounter in Liurnia of the Lakes. She is a scout for Volcano Manor and her quest is not only long, but also convoluted and rather picky about the individual steps you can take. It’s very easy to make a mistake, so be sure to follow our step-by-step guide on how to complete your questline and reap the rewards.
Where to find Rya
The first meeting with Rya takes place at Liurnia of the Lakes. South of the area next to the Birdseye Telescope you will find a small pavilion north of Ruins of Laskyar where she stands.
Talk to him and you will learn that his necklace was stolen by a scoundrel in a nearby cabin. This refers to the Great Boggart of the Dark Guard in the Boilprawn Shack, which also has its own questline.
Talk to Blackguard Big Boggart and buy Rya’s necklace from him for 1,000 runes. You can also kill him, as his death is indirectly related to one of Elden Ring’s endings. However, this will also end Blackguard Big Boggart’s questline prematurely, so consider yourself warned.
Return the necklace to Rya and in return you will receive the Invitation to the Volcano Manoran official document that will allow you to join the faction in the northwest of the Lands Between (Gelmir).
Second meeting with Rya
For your next encounter with Rya, you must reach the Altus Plateau
- Via the precipice strewn with ruins: If you take the path that crosses the mine, Rya will be waiting for you in the Ruins of Lux on Grace’s website “Erdtree-Gazing Hill”.
- Via the Great Dectus Elevator: If you assemble the Dectus Medallion and use the elevator, Rya will be on the left side of the elevator after you ride it to the board.
Note: If it doesn’t appear in either position, teleport to the elevator, go back up, and check again.
Meet Rya at one of the two locations and she will teleport you directly to Volcano Manorwhere you can talk to Tanith and accept the first kill mission.
Rya’s Snake Form
Once in Volcano Manor, you will find Rya in the living room, where you can exchange a few words with her.
After Tanith’s first target was eliminated… Old Knight Istvan – talk to Rya again. She reports “strange noises” in the house. Take the second letter on the table and kill the second target.
Back at Volcano Manor, Rya has moved into a room on the right side of the hallway. Here it is in its true form: like a snake.
Talk to him to find out his real name: Zoraya. As soon as you have exhausted his dialogue, leave the room and recharge the area by resting at the Site of Grace.
Rya will now have returned to her human form and is still in the same room on the right side. Exhaust the dialogue and enter the room to its right.
Secret passage in Volcano Manor
There is a secret passage in this room (which would explain the “strange noises”). Open it by rolling against the wall behind the corpse.
Before following the passage, you can ask Tanith “Zoraya’s form“, but this step is optional.
Follow the secret passage through the rooms with the snails and the bloodhound knight until you reach a chapel with the Site of Grace”Prison Town Church
The Dark Side of Volcano Manor
With this new knowledge about the secrets of Volcano Manor, you have new topics for Rya to talk about.
Come back to her and tell her about your new discoveries. Then walk to the newly discovered grace site “Prison Town Church” and go through the Volcano Manor Legacy Dungeon until you reach the boss fight against the Godskin Noble.
Take down the boss and you will find yourself in the Temple of Eiglay. You will discover the Snake Amnion on the altar. Take it with you.
Serpent Amnion for Rya
The Snake Amnion is the next important item in Rya’s quest, so pass it on to her. She recognizes the smell, she says.
Recharge the area by resting on the Site of Grace and Rya will have disappeared from her position. Go to Tanith and talk to her about “Zoraya’s absence“. She will give you the Tonic of oblivion.
Meet Rya at Volcano Manor
Where can you find Rya after she disappears from the room? Well, she has now moved to the inner area of Volcano Manor.
Start at the Site of Grace “Temple d’Eiglay”, use the northwest exit and take the elevator to the top (if it’s already unlocked).
Once at the top, follow the corridor straight northwest and jump through the window on the left. You will land next to Rya’s hideout.
Complete Rya’s quest
The end of Rya’s quest is in sight. There are now three ways to continue the quest and reach its conclusion:
- You can kill Rya as she asks. This will cause her to return to her snake form. She will thank you with her last breath and drop the Daedicar’s misfortune talisman. Finally, you can report tragic events to Tanith.
- You can just ignore it and kill Rykard, the final boss of Volcano Manor. Next, Rya has some new things to say. Recharge the area and you will also find the same Daedicar Woe Talisman plus Zoraya’s letter where she was sitting.
- You can give Rya the Tonic of Oblivion of Tanith, which will put him to sleep. It will then return to its initial position as soon as Rykard is dead and all NPCs have disappeared from the house. Talk to him there, recharge the area and the talisman will be ready to collect.
This concludes Rya’s long and (slightly confusing) quest and you can leave Volcano Manor.
