Black Bear Guai is a boss of King Yaoguai in Black Myth: Wukong, and the true and final form of the deadly Black Wind King from the beginning of the game. Now that you’ve chased him to the top of Black Wind Mountain, it’s time to fight him in his true form and bring Chapter 1 of Black Myth: Wukong to a close.
The mountaintop, with the burning temples all around you, certainly makes the fight more epic than the dimly lit cave from before. While still dressed in his monk garb, in his bear form, the Black Wind King is bigger and fiercer than before thanks to the fire element. But you’ll also have learned some new tricks since the last fight, so you’ll be able to encounter him just as easily.
This guide will provide you with all the information you need about how to beat Black Bear Guai in Black Myth: Wukong.

How to Prepare for the Black Bear Guai
Black Bear Guai is located at the top of Black Wind Mountain in the area called The Black Wind Cave (even though you’re technically outside of it). There’s a resting shrine right next to the boss arena gate called Bodhi Peak.
If you have not already done so, it is recommended that you complete the Quest for the Three Bells from earlier in the Black Wind Mountain region, including the defeat Old Jinchi. Not only will you unlock the ability to craft the highly fire-resistant bronze armor set, but you will also unlock the Fireproof coat Container. This is a new piece of equipment that is activated with the right trigger and clicking the left stick when your Qi gauge is full, and the Fireproof Coat will be very useful for the second phase of this fight.
If you feel like you need to level up and unlock more abilities with Spark Points, it’s also worth going back to earlier parts of this area to explore and fight other optional Black Myth: Wukong bosses you may have missed or find all the Meditation Points since we are at the end of chapter 1. Don’t worry if you don’t complete everything, because you can always come back to this area later.
How to defeat Black Bear Guai
As in his previous form as the Black Wind King, Black bear Guai can walk on cloudswandering around the arena like a cloud before rematerializing to ambush you. Of course, this time you can also move like a cloud to avoid his tricks.
You can also immobilize it, although you will have to be careful when using it given your limited mana. If you cast the spell while he is in cloud form, it will have no effect.and if you immobilize him while he jumps at you, he might be too far in the air for your attacks to reach him. Either way, it’s a waste of mana.
The good news is that if Black Bear Guai tries a leaping attackIt takes a while for it to have an impact, so it’s relatively easy to watch and in time for a perfect dodge to avoid getting hit. This can happen when he jumps at you straight out of the path of a cloud, or when he jumps into the air and crashes into you. Be careful in the latter case when trying to back up as the camera may not follow him in the air, making it harder to know when he’s going to come back down.
Otherwise, he will attack mainly with his bear clawsby doing large sweeping combos, crashing into the ground in front of him, and occasionally stomping his feet. All of this can be avoided with perfect dodging, but you have to be careful to find your openings to attack. Don’t counterattack until he completes a combo.even though even then you will find that you only have a small window to place a few hits before starting another combo
Second phase
When the Guai Black Bear is reduced to half of its health bar, it will enter its second phase, which you will be able to see because his arms will be surrounded by flameswhich now means his attacks can deal burn damage to you.
He will also return to the boring attack of the Black Wind King where it will take the form of a cloud and then charge you several timesand there’s not much you can do except try to dodge it. But contrary to what we said earlier about not casting Immobilize on his cloud form, during this phase it will actually work for bring him out of his cloud form while leaving him momentarily staggered so you can perform a free combo. I hope you saved your mana for this phase of the fight!
But given Immobilize’s long cooldown, you can only count on it once or twice during this second phase at best, and you’ll still need to be able to dodge its now more aggressive attacks while hoping you didn’t take too many hits in the first phase where you have no more canteen uses.
There is, however, a solution that makes this fight considerably easier. If you have followed our advice and completed the quest for the three bells and Equipped with the Fireproof Mantle ship, activating it now will cancel Black Bear Guai’s fire. While the effect is temporary, it should be more than enough to take advantage of it and reduce a significant portion of his health. If you have also crafted and equipped the new Bronze Armor set, this should also improve your defense and fire resistance.
We’ve also noticed that his second phase doesn’t always activate at half health. In one case, it only happened when he was down to 10% health, but this is likely an anomaly, so you should still be prepared for this fiery phase.
