Abyssal and Hadal Holds refer to two of the categories of fish you can find throughout Pickup and, to catch them, you need a specific type of fishing rod.
While rods in other categories, like Coastal or Shallow, can be gradually unlocked using Research Parts since the start of Dredge, you can only access Abyssal and Hadal fishing gear once you have completed part of a chase.
Once unlocked, however, you can fish the Abyssal and Hadal catches to your heart’s content and find the Ring relic. So watch below to learn how to get Abyssal and Hadal fishing catches in Drag.

How to Unlock Abyssal Fishing Catches in Dredge
To unlock Abyssal Fishing in Dredge, you must complete the first part of the Collect All Samples pursuit for the Research Assistant at the Ancient Fortress in Stellar Basin.
The ancient fortress is located on the island northwest of the main part of the star basin – its coordinates are D5.
For this pursuit, the search assistant will ask you to find:
- 1 aurora jellyfish
- 1 firefly squid
- 1 luminous octopus
Aberrant forms of these fish will not count for this Pursuit.
Below we have listed when, where and how we found these fish:
Aurora Jellyfish Location
Aurora Jellyfish only appear in Stellar pool at night and can be fished only by trawl. Since it’s a coastal jelly, we recommend using the upgraded trawl net to make sure you only catch fish from its spawning pool. It takes up four square-shaped spaces in your cargo.
We found the Aurora Jellyfish by navigating the Star Basin region (avoiding the sea monster, of course) while using the upgraded trawl. It also caught us some Firefly Squids.
Firefly Squid Location
The firefly squid can only be caught overnight at Stellar Basin. It’s a Coastal creature and can be caught by trawl or baitboat – both of which must be able to catch inshore catches. A Firefly Squid will occupy two rectangle-shaped squares.
We found the firefly squid while trawling using the upgraded trawl net and fishing using the anti-tangle line; the fishing spot we used was just northwest of the Starlight pontoon.
Useful, you can see the blue glow of the firefly squid under the waves!
Glowing Octopus Location
The luminous octopus cannot be caught the night at Stella Basin. He appears in Shallow waters and can be fished either using a Crab Pot or a walking stick which can capture shallow catches. A bright octopus will occupy four T-shaped squares.
We found the Glowing Octopus by using the Simple Skimmer rod and fishing a spot inside the western sandbar of Stellar Basin. As with the Firefly Squid, the blue glow of these octopuses is visible above the water, making them easy to find!
If you use a Crab Pot to find a Glowing Octopus, remember to check it regularly and it will need to be repaired after a certain number of days.
After you give her these fish, the research assistant will have another job for you: collect the prototype parts from the research outpost.
If you haven’t visited it already, the Research Outpost is located near the northeast opening of the Stellar Basin, just east of the Ring Relics dredge site. Its coordinates are G4.
Upon arriving at the research outpost, you will need to investigate the lab and there you will find the prototype parts by selecting “Inspect equipment on the table”. The prototype pieces will occupy two rectangle-shaped squares.
With the prototype parts stored in your cargo, it’s time to return to the researcher at the Old Fortress. She will give you the Sampling Device, which will allow you to practice deep sea fishing!
She will also give you a device that will help you reach the Ring Relic dredge site.
How to Unlock Hadal Fishing Catches in Dredge
If you want to catch fish from the Hades Fishing category in Dredge, you must first unlock Abyssal Fishing. After that, you will find that the Bottomless Lines are now available for unlocking in the Research section.
You will need part of research to unlock bottomless lines, which allow you to catch both abyssal and hadal fish.
Search coins can be found by dredging certain places in the sea, doing certain chases, and discovering interesting places in the waves, such as abandoned ships.
You will also receive a Finder Coin as part of your quest to retrieve the Ring Relic. That’s great, because you need a rod that can catch Hadal fish to get this relic!
After unlocking the Bottomless Lines Rod, you will be able to invest three Research Coins into the Fathomless Winch. This rod can fish abyssal, hadal and ocean fish.
Good luck catching Abyssal and Hadal fish!
