The Golden camouflage is a classic cosmetic in the series that can be used in all of your pistols, making a comeback in modern warfare 2.
With this weapon skin, you will show other players how much you have used a specific weapon during your time in Modern Warfare 2 multiplayer.
Indeed, each camo requires you to grind – it’s still about killing enemies, but in different ways. You will need to play many matches before acquiring this particular camo.
If you’re new to the game, it might take a while before you even know what you need to do to unlock gold camo in modern warfare 2 – that’s why we’ve put together an explainer and some tips on how to get that flashy skin.

How do camos work in Modern Warfare 2?
A camo is basically a weapon skin that lets you customize the look of your weapon, along with other cosmetic items like charms and stickers.
This is a visual change only – it will not give you any boost or advantage while playing.
Every weapon in Modern Warfare 2 has four base camouflages and four completion camouflages.
Base camos are four unique skins that can only be unlocked with a single weapon and then used with any weapon of your choice, while finishes are always the same styles but exclusive to the weapon you are using .
For example, the M4’s first Base Camo is Scales. If you unlock it, you can use it on your M4 or in another assault rifle, shotgun, etc. However, if you unlock an M4 Completionist Camo, you can only use it with that gun.
Meanwhile, the Gold Camo is the first perfectionist camouflage that you can unlock with any weapon. As the name suggests, it will add a golden visual to your weapon, making it shine on the battlefield.
Before you can use it, however, you’ll need to complete some challenges.
How to Unlock Gold Camo in Modern Warfare 2
To use any camouflage in Modern Warfare 2, you must first unlock it. Base camouflages are unlocked by killing enemies using the uniquely required weapon.
For example, the Scales camo asks you to kill 50 enemies with the M4, and the Desert Hybrid asks you to kill another 50 while using its scope.
These specific challenges must first be unlocked by upgrading the weapon you are going to use. Each weapon has its specific level at which its camouflage challenges are unlocked.
You can check this and the camo itself by going to the Weapons tab, selecting any multiplayer gear, customizing it with your weapon of choice, then going to that weapon’s Blacksmith menu.
Here you will first see all the attachments you can add to it. You need to switch from the Build Weapon tab to the Customize tab.
Choose the first option (Camo) and you can check out the gun specific camos on the left and any you’ve already unlocked on the right.
To unlock the golden camouflage, you must first unlock the four base camouflages of the weapon you have selected. Once done, you will unlock the Gold Camo specific challenge.
For example, the M4’s Gold Camo requires you to get three kills without dying ten times – killing the same player over and over counts as long as you don’t die.
Tips for completing Gold Camo challenges in Modern Warfare 2
You can upgrade the weapon you want and complete its challenges in virtually any available online mode (this also includes co-op missions). Killing both real players and bots counts as long as you get the kills as requested in the challenge.
While you can play all you want, leveling up your weapon near its max level and completing each challenge can take some time depending on your skill and luck.
A partial solution to this problem is to use Double Weapon XP tokens, which will duplicate any experience points you earn within a certain amount of time. You can read more about these tokens and how to get them in our Double XP guide.
Another useful tip is to play online modes that have no objectives other than defeating enemies. For example, Free-For-All, Team Deathmatch and Kill Confirmed. Here you will only focus on killing soldiers, which will improve your weapon and allow you to complete challenges.
The the easiest multiplayer mode to unlock any Gold Camo, however, is Invasion. In this mode, you fight against an army of real players and enemy bots. Bots are generally easier to defeat, and they aren’t as dangerous to you. Play a few matches here and you will unlock the desired golden camo in the fastest way possible.

Other Completionist camos including Platinum, Polyatomic and Orion explained
As already mentioned, the Gold Camo is the first Completionist Camo that you can unlock with any weapon. This means there are three other special camouflages you can also obtain: Platinum, Polyatomic, and Orion.
To unlock one of these additional camouflages, you must complete a number of challenges with the previous camouflage. For example, to unlock the M4 Platinum Camo, you need to complete its challenges while wearing the Gold Camo.
Repeat this with each Completionist camouflage and you will unlock all available camouflages for the weapon you are using in Modern Warfare 2.
