Nala arrived in Disney Valley of Dreams alongside his faithful companion Simba as part of the “Pride of the Valley” update. The duo were on hiatus from royal duties when they parted ways in The Lion King’s kingdom, and it’s your job to help them both.
Nala is the first of the two you can join at home in Disney’s Dreamlight Valley, and she’s also the first you meet in The Lion King Kingdom. After convincing her that you’re not a snack, it’s up to you to help her.

How to get Nala in Disney Dreamlight Valley
To get Nala in the Disney Dreamlight Valley, you need unlock the Lion King kingdom in the castle for 10,000 Dreamlight. It is in the first staircase of the castle, next to the Frozen and Toy Story kingdoms.
You must then complete the quest “Eyes in the Dark” in this kingdom. There are quite a few steps to complete this quest, but don’t worry, we’re here to guide you through every step.
Before entering the kingdom of The Lion King, we recommend that you stock up on meals because you will use a lot of energy here. You can check out our recipe guide to learn more about cooking in the valley.

How to complete the Eyes in the Dark quest in Disney Dreamlight Valley
When you first enter the kingdom, the “Eyes in the Dark” quest begins. You will meet Nala and see that she roars at the eyes in the darkness surrounding the parched oasis.
Approach Nala and talk to her, use any of the conversation options you want (we tried to answer), and Nala will realize that you are not a threat.
After a brief conversation, Nala will leave to hold off the hyenas and now it’s up to you to find a way to block the path so they don’t come closer. To do this, you need to find and grow five thorn bushes.
Where to find Thorn Bush Seeds in the Parched Oasis
To find Thorn Bush seeds in the parched oasis, look for growths sticking out of the ground that look like very pale nocturnal thorns. We’ve circled one in the image below:
Dig this to get a Thorn Bush Seed and some additional materials. You’ll have to do this to the five growths in the region to obtain the necessary seeds. Then, once you have the seeds, head to the ledge at the back of the dried oasis.
An easy way to find it is to stand at the entrance portal facing the area, then head to the right. When you find the ledge, there will already be holes in the ground to put the seeds in. All you have to do is plant the five seeds and water them once for the bushes to grow.
The path will then be blocked, Nala will come back to you and you can proceed to the next step of this quest.
How to unlock the cave entrance
You will then learn that you must clear the entrance to the cave to access the jungle on the other side. To do this, it suffices use your shovel to dig up the dried up tree stumps then talk to Nala again.
If, like us, Nala doesn’t register that you’ve cleared the path, head through the cave to the jungle, then backtrack on your own to the parched oasis. Nala should then register that the path is clear and you can talk to her.
How to lower the log near the waterfall
Now you need to head into the jungle to look for Simba, but Nala will inform you that you need to find a way to lower the log near the waterfall to get to the next area, as Simba is nowhere to be found.
To lower the log, climb up the waterfall until you face it, then look up and to the left. You should see this:
Use your pickaxe to smash the rocks at the bottom of the cliff under the raised log. This will then lower the log and give you a path to get to the next area.
Find Simba!
Cross the new bridge and follow the path to the next area. Then all you have to do is talk to Simba, but don’t forget to say “Hakuna Matata”! Let the conversation flow then follow Simba to witness his reunion with Nala.
Then talk to Simba again and the next stage of this quest will begin.
Where to find slime bugs and colored bugs
Nala is hungry and Simba wants to show her all the good food in the jungle. He will ask you to find slime bugs and colored bugs. Slime bugs can be found in the river next to Simba. Fish them like you would anything in the valley. You need three slimy insects.
Colorful bugs can be found in the Parched Oasis (where you met Nala). You can get the colored bugs by digging up the glittering dirt areas in the Oasis. dig them up as you would with anything in your valley. You need six colored insects.
Bring them back to Simba, who will then inform you that this is not enough. Now you need to find red bugs too, after all, a dish should be slimy but satisfying.
Where to find red bugs
Red bugs can be found in the area where you encountered Simba. Head to the area and use your shovel to dig up one of the withered tree stumps in the zone.
Once you have dug one, the The red insects will shoot and scuttle around the area. They are really fast and you have to catch them all.
When you’ve caught all the bugs, you need to make a bug tray. There are a few steam pipe type things in front of Simba and Nala that can be used for cooking.
Insect Platter Recipe
Once back in your realm, head to a stove and follow this Insect platter recipe:
- 2x red bugs
- 2x colored insects
- 1x Slime Bug
That’s a portion of the insect tray, you need to make this dish three times.
After preparing food (literally), give the dishes to Nala. However, danger lurks in the dark!
Scare away the hyenas
The hyenas are back and closing in on you, Nala, and Simba. You then have the idea to trick the hyenas but you need help for that. Return to the Valley while Simba and Nala hold them back.
Go and talk to Scrooge McDuckhe’ll give you an old sound system that needs some repairs so you can use it to scare away hyenas.
How to repair the audio system
For fix the sound system in Disney Dreamlight Valley’s “Eyes in the Dark” quest you will need:
- x10 Softwood
- x5 Hardwood
- x2 Iron Ingots
When you have the right materials, head to a workbench. You will find the sound system under the “Furniture” tab at the top.
Craft/repair the system, then return to the Lion King Kingdom. Give the audio system to Nala and watch the story end.
Welcome Nala!
After scaring away the pesky hyenas, Nala will want to come to your kingdom. All you have to do is make him a home. Return to the Valley And place Pride Rock wherever you want it’s going.
Place Pride Rock down like you would with a piece of furniture. When you head to your furniture menu, you should have a special request from Nala. This is where you will find Pride Rock. Then place it and pay Scrooge 15,000 coins to build it. It’s a pretty big structure, so we’ve pushed it onto Dazzle Beach for now.
That’s it, once Pride Rock is built, Nala will arrive in your valley!
