Most of the spells in Black Myth: Wukong are given to you as part of the main story, but the best fate can be found very early in your journey to the west, as early as Chapter 1. It’s an optional transformation spell that’s very easy to miss and can literally transform your chances of survival when facing the bosses of Black Myth: Wukong, as they not only give you powerful new attacks to unleash, but also an entirely separate health bar.
In this guide we will tell you how to get Black Myth: Wukong’s best spell early, and where to find it so you can start using it as quickly as possible.

How to get Black Myth: Wukong’s best spell
The best spell in Black Myth: Wukong is Red Tidesa transformation spell you obtain by defeating the Yaoguai Chieftain sub-boss, Guangzhouin chapter 1.
Guangzhi can be easily missed if you stick to the main story path, but below we’ll explain how to find him. The nearest shrine location is ‘Out of the forest“in the wolf forest, and you should head straight down the path towards the two yaoguai wolves waiting for you, then go left and follow the path around the large rock wall.
You will eventually come to a raised bamboo bridge with an archer on it, as pictured below:
Cross this bridge and face the archer, then continue following the path through the wooden arch and turn left. As you round the corner you will see a small entrance with a large stone Buddha head next to it:
This is where you’ll find Guangzhi, but be warned: you’ll also need to defeat Guangzhi before you can retrieve his transformation spell.
Once defeated, simply interact with his staff which will be planted in the ground next to his body, and the Red Tides spell will be added to your arsenal.
This transformation spell is incredibly handy, as transformations don’t rely on your limited mana pool, so you only have to wait for it to cool down before using it again, making it a much more versatile spell than some of the others you’ll encounter. Additionally, you can transform into the large and powerful Guangzhi, whose fiery spear lets you deal extra burning damage to your enemies. Fill their burn gauges and they’ll burst into flames to deal extra damage – it’s a real win-win.
Alas, transformation spells may not be tied to your mana, but the time you can use them is still quite limited: each attack you make depletes your Power gauge, and once it’s depleted, you transform back into the Chosen One. Still, it’s a worthy bonus, and can make all the difference in a particularly difficult boss fight.
Remember that the Guangzhi boss arena is also one of the Three Bells Locations
Now, feel free to start experimenting with Guangzhi’s new transformation powers against some of the other upcoming bosses in Chapter 1, the White-Clad Noble and the Black Wind King.
