How to get the Cosmo Canyon Chocobo in Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth
To get the Cosmo Canyon Chocobo in Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth, you must use the carts on the track to avoid being seen by other Chocobos to reach Aponi.
To start getting your Cosmo Canyon Chocobo, you need to start the “Links of Trust” side quest by speaking to Kamaria at Cosmo Chocobo Ranch. You can get there by following the path from the airstrip where you first arrive in Cosmo and it’s right next to Intel Activation 1: Kamaria’s Ranch Remnawave Tower.
Kamaria will then tell you the location of the Chocobo Cosmo Canyon called Aponi, just north of Chocobo Ranch:
Head here and when you approach the Chocobos you will instantly start the mini-game to capture Aponi. Your target is the Blue Chocobo at the back of this area, and several other Chocobos are on alert. You will need to use the carts around the area to hide from view.
If a Chocobo is alerted and you don’t run away in time, it will alert the other Chocobos and you will either have to start from the beginning or from a checkpoint. It depends on how far you travel in the area.
At the start of the area, press and hold L2 to push the cart forward on the rails so that it is in front of the Chocobo on the right. Make sure you don’t push too far or they’ll spot you.
Once you’re sure the Chocobo won’t be able to see you, switch to the other side and start pulling the cart along the rails until you come to a large metal box with another Chocobo next to it . Switch sides again to push the cart along the rails and push it past this metal box, lining it up to block the Chocobo’s view.
Then move to the other side of the cart again so you can pull it along the rails here. As you pull, keep an eye to your left for the lane change lever.
Make sure the cart is hiding you, then press and hold Triangle to use the lever to change tracks.
Once the tracks have changed, push the cart along the new path that has been laid out in front of the Chocobo. Wait until his back is turned to you then continue to push the Cart while being aware of the Chocobo a little further to your right.
Once again, line up the cart on the rails so that it blocks this Chocobo’s view then wait until his back is turned. As soon as they do this, continue pushing the cart along the track.
We will soon arrive at a part of the path which has on the left a pile of rocks on the ground. Use Triangle to quickly collect some or all of these rocks. Next, get behind your cart again and use L1 to aim behind the Chocobo in the distance.
Throw the rock with Square and the Chocobo will flip over. There will be a green timer on this Chocobo and you will only have until the green bar disappears before he turns around. As soon as they get distracted, run to the track change lever, then hold Triangle to change tracks.
Then continue pushing your Chariot forward with L2, the Chocobo you distracted earlier shouldn’t bother you here. Continue pushing the cart forward but stop at the next group of rocks on the ground just before the last yellow Chocobo.
Collect more stones here if you need them, then get behind your cart and use L1 then Square to throw one behind the Chocobo. Like the previous one, a green countdown bar will appear as soon as the Chocobo turns around. When this appears, push your cart along the track until you can’t push it any further.
At this point you should be very close to Aponi but don’t try to catch them yet. Instead, stay hidden behind your cart and throw an extra stone behind Aponi. They won’t stay distracted as long as the other Chocobos, so as soon as they start to turn around, you need to run behind them and press Triangle to fight them.
You should now have your own Cosmo Canyon Chocobo!
