Approval at Manor Lords
Simply put, your Approval measure how happy your citizens are in your colony. Meeting their basic needs – such as providing them with access to food, shelter and clothing – will generally lead to a good approval rating.
You can check approval by hovering over the “thumb” icon on the bar at the top of your screen. This will display your approval rating for the last 30 days, in addition to your “previous” approval rating from the previous period.
Your approval has a significant impact on the success of your settlement because it determines population growth. This is the rate at which new families move into your settlement, and you will need to continue recruiting villagers to fill jobs. A 50 percent approval rate is required to increase the populationand get families to settle in your village.
Approval also impacts morale of your militia units, with a high approval rate allowing your soldiers to fight more effectively. Low approval will lead to low morale and your militia units will not perform well on the battlefield if they feel unhappy.
There are also dire consequences if you fail to maintain a good approval rating, with citizens turning to crime
It should be noted that as you increase your Burgage plots to levels 2 and 3, some of your subsistence requirements will also increase, meaning citizens will need a greater amount of food and clothing to stay happy. Therefore, proceed with caution when upgrading your Burgage plots, as you may need to adjust your goods supply to account for this.
How to increase approval among Lords of Manor
When looking to increase your approval, here are the key areas you should try to address:
- Food variety
- Variety of clothing
- Church level
- Beer supply
Ensure that your establishment has access to a varied range of food will give a boost to your approval, as well as meeting the residential Burgage Plot requirements (which in turn will help you increase your settlement level).
This means you will need to have multiple food sources, such as berries, meat, bread, eggs, vegetables, apples, or honey. Don’t forget to create many Burgage Plot extensions to produce Eggs And Vegetables. Taking the Beekeeping upgrade from the development point tree will also give you access to apiaries where you can collect Dear.
Likewise, residents will want a variety of clothing to make them happy. The easiest way to achieve this is to convert the skins into Leather At Tannery building. If you add Goat Shed expansions to your Burgage plots, you should be able to produce plenty of hides to support this.
Once you upgrade a Burgage Plot to level 2, you can also create a Cobbler’s Workshop expansion to start producing. Shoes in leather.
If you’re low on food or clothing, you can always import supplies through trade.
Create multiple markets to ensure uniform distribution of goods
To ensure all your citizens have easy access to food and clothing stalls, we recommend building lots of small markets throughout your city rather than just one big one. This will ensure that your goods are distributed evenly, as the Burgage plots closest to a market will be the first to choose items, leaving distant houses unsupplied. Assign a lot of Attic And Warehouse workers will also allow your goods to be brought to market quickly.
Build churches near your Burgage plots
Another easy way to improve your approval rating is to place a Churchbecause your villagers will want a place to pray.
THE wooden church costs x5 wood, x20 planks and x10 stone to build. This can then be upgraded to the Small stone church for wood x5, stone x20, planks x10 and tiles x10.
Keep the Beer Flowing in Your Tavern
Once you have an established town and are looking to upgrade your Burgage plots to level 3, you will also need to provide entertainment. To do this, you will need to place a Tavern and keep it stocked But.
Making beer is quite a complex process, as you will need to cultivate fields of barley, build a malt house to turn your barley harvest into malt, and then a brewery to turn that malt into beer.
To ensure your Burgage Plots have easy access to Ale, we recommend build your tavern in a fairly central location in the middle of your city.
What to Avoid to Ensure Approval Doesn’t Diminish
While there are several ways to improve your approval rating, you should also be aware of potential penalties that can Shame your rating:
- Homelessness
- Body to be buried
- Taxation
- Not meeting residential requirements (lack of water, food, clothing, etc.)
The first of them that you will have to solve is Homelessness, like when you start a game, your citizens will live in a homeless camp rather than established houses. If this issue is not resolved, it will result in a loss of approval, which will slow down the growth of your village.
A quick solution to this problem is to upgrade the homeless camp with x1 Timber, which will turn it into a Worker camp. This provides temporary accommodation and will prevent your approval rate from dropping below 50 percent (the amount required for immigration). Citizens living in the camp won’t be truly happy until they’re living in Burgage plots, so you’ll need to move them into suitable homes as soon as possible.
At some point you will likely have a battle near your town, especially if you are attacked by bandits. Having corpses loitering in the streets is, understandably, quite upsetting for your population – and will result in a loss of approval if not resolved. You will need to build a Corpse pit in which to bury the looters, and a wooden church
Taxation is an option that becomes available once you reach the “Small Village” settlement level (level 2) and place the mansion building. Implementing a property tax will convert some of your regional wealth to the Treasury, but be careful: any level of taxation will result in a loss of approval. High tax levels will be significantly disruptive to your population, so we felt it was best to keep your taxes at around 10 to 20 percent.
Finally, to keep your citizens happy, you will need to constantly provide them with a diverse range of food and clothing, especially if you have upgraded their Burgage plots. Level 3 plots, for example, will need uninterrupted access to beer at the tavern. Do not supply homes with Fuel in the form of firewood or charcoal can cause discontent, and you should also check that your citizens all have access to a GOOD. If lack of resources prevents you from meeting these Residential requirementsheist plots will become unsatisfied and you may face penalties related to your approval level.
