Palworld’s mental health
Pal Sanity in Palworld, known as SAN, shows you how happy your friends are. If they are unhappy or stressed, they will have low levels of mental health, which can eventually lead to them taking too long to complete a task, getting sick, or refusing to work altogether.
You will usually receive a notification warning you that the SAN for a specific Pal has fallen too low. However, you can check a friend’s Sanity level yourself by hovering over their icon in the Palbox and looking for the SAN bar, or you can hover over them in your base to view their details at the bottom of your screen.
Any buddy with a SAN level below 65 is cause for concern and means you need to do something to quickly increase their sanity.
How to increase Pal’s Sanity in Palworld
These are Best Ways to Increase Pal Sanity in Palworld. Some methods are quicker and easier to implement than others, but generally the more complex and expensive ones work best. We strongly recommend that you do everything you can to keep a friend happy, otherwise your base will run into serious problems.
Create beds
Your friends will easily get stressed and lose their SAN if they have nowhere to sleep! The first item you can build for this is the Straw Pal Bed, but not all Pals can fit in this small square – especially larger ones like Quivern.
Larger friends such as Quivern and Relaxaurus will need the Large Pal bed to sleep on, otherwise they will simply sleep on the floor and recover very little SAN while doing so.
The type of bed you build should be determined by the friends who work in your base and the extent to which you want to replenish their sanity through sleep. Here are currently all the beds you can craft in Palworld and the materials needed for them:
Straw Pal Bed – Level Three
Fluffy Pal Bed – Level 24
- x10 Fabric
- x30 Wood
- x5 Nail
- x10 Fiber
Large Pal bed – Level 36
- x10 High quality fabric
- x60 Wood
- x20 Nail
- x30 Fiber
Build hot springs
Another way to increase SAN Pal, and one that we highly recommend doing as soon as you build a base, is to build hot springs. It’s basically a nice, relaxing, warm bubble bath for your friends to regain their sanity after a long day of working for you.
Hot springs can take up a lot of space in your base, but you’ll just have to build one for all your friends to enjoy.
Here are currently all the hot spring recipes for Palworld and the materials you will need to build them:
Hot Spring – Level Nine
High Quality Hot Spring – Level 31
- x100 Stone
- x100 Wood
- x30 Paldium Fragment
- x20 Cement
Feeding friends
Feeding your friends at base should be a priority. If they go hungry, their sanity will drop quickly and it seems that even if there are food resources nearby (like a berry bush), the best way to ensure they are fed is to build a food box.
To build a basic Feed Box, you will need the following materials and will be level four to unlock the recipe:
Additionally, the more quality meals you prepare and feed your friends, the more SAN they will recover. Yes, meals. You will need to prepare actual full meals for some pals and you can either feed them directly to a buddy to ensure they can eat it, or place the meals in the buddy’s feeding box.
Give them medicine
If a buddy’s SAN level gets really low, they might get sick or sad, and sometimes the easiest way to give them a little boost is to give them medication. You can build a medicine bench and make your own medicines, or you can buy medicines from wandering merchants (there is always one in Small Settlement).
You must be level 12 to unlock the Medieval Medicine Workbench recipe:
- x30 Wood
- x5 Nail
- x10 paldium fragments
Different medications offer different benefits to your friends, so pay attention to each of their descriptions to decide which one will help ease your friend’s ailments.
Lots of praise
Another quick way to make sure your friend is happy is to give them some attention. When you approach a friend and hover over them, you should receive a control prompt to “Open Menu.” Use the command prompted, then select “Animal” to pet your buddy.
This lets them know that they are appreciated and doing a good job, which can instantly increase some of their SAN. We recommend doing this at least once a day if you want to keep your friends looking their best.
Let them rest
Your friends are often hard workers who continually alternate between work and rest, but there may be times when everything you’ve been doing won’t work for them. The best way to increase a Pal’s SAN when you’ve done everything you can for it is to return it to the Palbox.
We recommend changing your base Pals once a week (in real time) to ensure there is no massive SAN drop. We’ve also noticed our friends’ sanity dropping after a raid on a base left them extremely stressed, so keep an eye on them if you’ve been attacked.
