Two Compass recipes have been added to LEGO Fortnite as part of its big Gone Fishin’ update in February 2024, featuring fishing rods, bait buckets, Spyglass and more!
With the Compass, you can now add basic navigation to your HUD, telling you which direction you’re facing, and the Survival Compass takes it a step further in Lego Fortnite, adding map markers to your HUD.

How to Make a Basic Compass in Lego Fortnite

However, first, you need to unlock the Basic Compass recipe. To get the Basic Compass recipe, place the glass in your inventory. To get glass, you need to bring sand and light cores to a metal smelter, which seems simple enough, but to get a metal smelter you need a village at level 9. This unfortunately makes the compass an endgame item.
When available, for make a metal smelter in Lego Fortnite you need:
- 3 blast cores
- 15 luminous hearts
- 35 obsidian slabs
Fortunately, Wolf Claws are easier to obtain than Glass, as you only need to find and kill wolves to obtain them. We recommend crafting at least a knight’s shield and a short sword when hunting wolves, so as not to meet an untimely demise.
Since this is an endgame item anyway, you may want to forget about the basic compass and go straight to crafting the survival compass.
How to Make a Survival Compass in Lego Fortnite
HAS make a survival compass from Lego Fortnite you need:
- 1 sand claw
- 1 copper bar
- 5 Glass
Again, the Survival Compass recipe is only unlocked by adding glass to your inventory. See the Basic Compass section above to learn how to do this.
To obtain Sand Claws, you must defeat Sand Wolves in Desert Biomes. Just like with regular wolves, take at least a knight’s shield and a short sword to help with your attack and defense during combat.
Copper Bars are harder to obtain, as you also need the Metal Smelter to craft them from Copper and Brightcores. Copper and Brightcore are both found in caves in the Desert biome, but you need at least one rare pickaxe to mine them.
HAS craft a rare pickaxe in Lego Fortnite you need:
- 3 claws of sand
- 3 flexible wooden rods
All that resource mining will be worth it, because you can now see directions and map markers on your HUD with the Survival Compass!
