There are three types of mounts in Palworld: one for land, another for water, and finally one for sky. For this reason, it’s a good idea to know which Pals can be ridden and what type of landscape they will help you explore, so we’ve included a List of Palworld mounts down.

However, we recommend first learning how to mount and ride a buddy at Palworld, otherwise you won’t really get anywhere.

How to mount a Pal in Palworld

If you want to ride a Pal – whether on land, across the sea or in the sky – you must first catch one that has the ability to serve as a mount. You can find out if any of the friends currently in your collection have this ability by looking at their partner skill. If it says “can be mounted” in any form, then you have a mount!

However, you can’t just jump on a buddy’s back and start exploring. You would fall.

Instead, you need to craft a saddle which, if you haven’t already, must be unlocked from the Technology menu. There are, however, a number of conditions that you must meet before doing so.

First, you need to grab at least one of these specific Pal mounts to unlock their saddle. You may have noticed that there are a number of options in the Technology menu where the item you can create is hidden by a question mark – these are the items that require you to grab a specific buddy to unlock them and saddles are part of it.

Next, you need to make sure you are at the right level to unlock this section of the Technology menu. So, otherwise, it’s time to go collect XP by catching buddies, gathering resources and expanding your bases, among other activities.

After doing this, or if you are already at that specific level, you need to make sure that you have enough tech points to unlock the saddle recipe.

The fourth step is to build a Pal Gear workbench if you haven’t already. This item allows you to build a variety of items that will unlock new abilities for your friends, such as different saddles, and requires:

All you have to do is gather the resources needed to build the specific saddle. You can find these items listed in the Technology menu and on the Pal Gear workbench. Once you’ve collected them, it’s time to make your saddle (or ask your friends to make it for you) at the Pal Gear workbench.

Once you have collected the completed saddle, throw your Pal mount out of its sphere and you will be able to mount it by pressing the correct prompt. A number of abilities will be available to you when riding your mount.

In practice, this means that if you want to ride a Melpaca, you first need to catch one of these buddies. (Luckily, they can be found in the starting area or hatched from common eggs.) Next, you need to reach level 7 and have a spare tech point. Once this is done, you will need to gather three Leather Fragments, five Wool Fragments, and five Paldium Fragments to collect the saddle from the Pal Gear workbench. Once the saddle is made, you will be able to ride any of your Melpacas whenever you want.
