What’s different about the mid-generation Sony 4K increase.
Sony has at least released a brand new, sup4-up-PS4, called The PS4 Pro – previously referred to as PS4 Neo or PS4K – joining Microsoft's Xbox Project Scorpio as a new wave of mid-console development.
Following a series of leaks earlier this year, an event that unveiled in September, and now the extensive work of Digital Foundry during and reviewing the PS4 Pro, we knew about its visual development and performance as part of & # 39; Pro & # 39; dedicated games, 4K and HDR output, and full compatibility with existing PS4 games and edges.
The PS4 Pro should not be confused with the PS4 Slim, which is set to offer the same samples, software and computer-related support as a launching console on a smaller platform. If you already have your hands on one and want to transfer your data, in the meantime, explain exactly how to transfer your data from PS4 to PS4 Pro including saving, games, trophies and more, in a separate guide.
PS4 Pro Comparison – How powerful is it compared to an existing PS4?
Here's how the Pro and base44 compare:
Basic PS4 | PS4 Pro | Encourage | |
---|---|---|---|
CPU | Eight Jaguar cores are set at 1.6GHz | Eight Jaguar cores are clocked at 2.1GHz | 1.3x |
GPU | 18 Radeon GCN computer units at 800MHz | 36 & # 39; upgraded computer units & # 39; of GCN at 911MHz | 2.3x FLOPs |
Memory | 8GB GDDR5 at 176GB / s | 8GB GDDR5 at 218GB / s | 24% more bandwidth, 512MB usable memory |
Sony said it had "more than doubled" the GPU's capacity for the standard PS4, that it uses Polaris architecture for AMD architecture, and that the CPU clock rate was increased. Here are some differences:
PS4 Pro vs PS4 – what will be the same?
- The same game library – so no exceptions to the PS4 Pro – with each piece of software an integrated package that works for both hearts
- PS4 games with no specific PS4 Pro mode set to run in parallel
- Identical support related, from DualShock 4 to PS Camera
- There are no special features for PS4 Pro or DLC in any games. However, leaks have already suggested that certain approaches can be improved; For example, when there is a split screen mode for two players, it can expand to four players on Pro
- PSN shared and evenly distributed nature, standard PS4 users can play and interact with Pro users without any difference online, and vice versa
- Store data, Trophy and PSN account for logging in between the two systems, with the same user interface
- The PlayStation Store will be similar, but expect the pages and packages of real body to list the PS4 Pro-added
- HDR visual support, also available to support PS4 systems through firmware 4.0 update
What does the PS4 Pro not offer:
How is the PS4 Pro similar to Project Scorpio?
While we are here, we have to discuss some of the upcoming competitions. Pro Scorpio is on Xbox One as PS4 Pro is PS4; intermediate improvements between significant improvements and performance in existing software, as well as full-back compatibility with all previous software and parameters.
PS4 | PS4 Pro | Xbox One | Scorpio for the project | |
---|---|---|---|---|
CPU | Eight Jaguar cores are set at 1.6GHz | Eight Jaguar cores are clocked at 2.1GHz | Eight Jaguar cores are set at 1.75GHz | Eight cores, guess: Clock Jaguar up or equal |
GPU | 18 Radeon GCN computer units at 800MHz | 36 GCN computer units upgraded at 911MHz | 12 GCN computer units at 853MHz | Guess: 56/60 GCN computer units at 800-850MHz |
Memory | 8GB GDDR5 at 176GB / s | 8GB GDDR5 at 218GB / s | 8GB DDR3 at 68GB / s and 32MB ESRAM at max 218GB / s | Over bandwidth of 320GB / s – guess: 12GB of GDDR5 |
How are others different in thought? While so far the Xbox One is lagging behind in PS4 performance, Pro Scorpio is set to offer greater connectivity in the size of the PS4 and PS4 Pro, with better graphics and memory capabilities, and support for traditional 4K games. (If you are interested in investing in 4K TV for Xbox One S and beyond, here is a list of some of the best 4KTV screens for HDR games.)
To quote Digital Foundry in their analysis of the Xbox Project Scorpio: "It's a surprising change. A good part of the success of the PlayStation 4 has been its profits over the Xbox One, combined with a focus on hardcore gamers. Sony's technology will be technology. Go with the next wave of hardware."
It is expected that you will have to wait longer than one, though; The PS4 Pro is coming in November 2016, while Microsoft has said that Project Scorpio will not release until the holiday in 2017. Price is also a factor, with Digital Foundry also forecasting a $ 100 difference between the two mid-generation systems.
How is the PS4 Pro similar to the Xbox One S?
While the Xbox One S is actually a small line for the Xbox One (with the added benefits of those using 4KTV – you can learn all we know about the Xbox One S in our dedicated directory) The PS4 Pro is a mid-level upgrade over the existing PS4, with significant improvements and performance. all right.
While all PS4s – both small and Pro – provide HDR support through firmware upgrades, which only certain Xbox One S models allow, Microsoft's system comes with a UHD Blu-ray drive, while the PS4 Pro refuses.
How will PS4 Pro games be different?
Based on the first preview of the event in September it reveals a digital-generated event, but upgrades to Pro games vary from topic to topic, jumping to 4K is a really good thing.
While the Pro & # 39; s GPU lacks the ability to display traditional 4Ks, the techniques used offer "a very good increase in reliability over 1080p", with side-by-side comparisons of the two seeing a surprising "substantial increase." HDR – which will also be coming to standard PS4s in some way – was described as adding "extra detail as additional resolution" in some cases.
But what about those with a standard HD display? All Pro-mode games will run at 1080p on average, but the rest is developer. Digital Foundry claims that most users will "only benefit from a higher sample, and possibly a lower frame rate in most seats" – albeit not in multiplayer, not giving frame-level benefits to regular PS4 players – but developers can put in the work to offer more display options. The Rise of the Tomb Raider was a standout example, the Pro offers 4K30 presentation, 1080p30 locks with high resolution or 1080p unlocked mode and performance between 40 and 60FPS – which provides 4K and HD visual improvements.
Here are a few additional notes on what the games will look like from the Digital Foundry review of the PS4 Pro:
- HDR is generally activated or deactivated by rotating the screen of each game option – InFamous First Light, Deus Ex Mople Divised, and Unchart 4 are some examples.
- According to Digital Foundry, "getting game-changing information from HDR seems to be measured in terms of the amount of money you're willing to pay" on your screen.
- 4K, in the best PS4 Pro models for testing ability like Rise of the Tomb Raider, only appears as a non-native 4K under "intense scrutiny".
- That being said, the results are "different", as we said, with the level of increase depending on game-to-game basis – older games like Skyrim Special Edition offer 4K, while others like the InFamous rating reach 1800p, and the likes of Des Ex Mankind Separated use a combination of both dynamic scales and experiments together.
How does the PS4 Pro affect 1080p games?
Usually the message here is that the results, in turn, change on the basis of the game. Call of Duty: Modern Warfare, for example, both boosted the resolution to 1620p while also sticking strongly to the 60fps target – giving both increase in performance and image quality.
InFamous ports instead stick to 1080p, but use the extra power to increase frame rates. Paragon increases the resolution from 900p to 1080p, adding to other features, and Digital Foundry understands that Mass Effect Andromeda has many options, such as the 1800p chekerboard mode and 1080p enhanced mode.
Others, such as Unchched 4, seem to drop frames in the same places on the origina PS4 model.
So while features will vary from subject-to-topic, improvements to Pro-mode headers may include:
- 1080p traditional display resolution solution
- Prices are high
- Fixed inflation
- Improved graphics reliability
- Additional graphics features
With mandatory support for existing PS4 games on the Pro, there will be a roof with performance improvements; After all, in a statement from PlayStation manager Andrew House, both the original and Pro versions will be sold at the same time through the program's "life cycle".
It should also be noted that PS4 games without dedicated PS4 Pro mode should be exactly as they did on the existing PS4. How this works is that while the PS4 Pro offers dual-computing units, it is positioned as a mirror of the original PS4 PSU, half of which worked when running regular PS4 games. While it means we can't see others slightly upgrading to regular games like the Xbox One S excess, will ensure that the games will work without compatibility issues.
How much power does the PS4 Pro use?
Digital Foundry also compared the power output of the three available PlayStation 4 poles, with Pro sitting at a much lower power draw than the original PS4, but higher than the smaller, more compact PS4 Slim. Be sure to check out the DF & # 39; s PS4 Pro review for more details, but here is their table below:
PlayStation 4 power consumption (Watts) | PS4 Pro CUH-7000 | PS4 Slim CUH-2000 | PS4 Launch CUH-1000 |
---|---|---|---|
Front-End (Online, and Disc Install) | 75 | 75 | 89 |
Front-End (online, download) | 71. | 71. | 80 |
Vacation Mode (Internet, Download) | 58. | 46 | 73. |
Project Cars (Basic Mode) | 104 | 84. | 138 |
Project Cars (Sub Mode) | 104 | 84. | 140 |

List of PS4 Pro games – what games will be upgraded to the new system?
While existing PS4 games will work similarly to PS4 Pro, developers can update them with certain Pro features if developers choose. According to mature documents, as of October 2016 all new games released on the PS4 must offer Pro mode to offer improved viewing and performance, such as increased resolution or new rolling features. This definitely means that the biggest release this year will be with Pro modes, but until then, the following PS4 Pro certified games include:
