You can get your hands on a Shining Magikarp in Pokemon Go very soon indeed. That’s probably the main reason you’ll want to participate in this week’s Spotlight Hour.
There are many more reasons to look forward to the event. You will have the chance to catch as many Magikarp as possible, with the possibility of catching a 100% Magikarp Perfect IV Stats. You can find a preview of Shiny Magikarp below.
Magikarp’s spotlight hour falls on a quiet day in Pokémon Go, but you can still participate in the Go Battle League and battle Tapu Bulu in five-star Raids.

Magikarp 100% perfect IV stats in Pokemon Go
This week’s Spotlight Hour is a great opportunity to catch a Magikarp with perfect IV stats.
Once you catch a Magikarp at 100% IV stats, you will have the choice to evolve it into Gyarados with perfect stats. Although they don’t really have much influence in the Go Battle League, they can be useful when fighting Team Go Rocket Grunts or in raids.
The CP values that correspond to the perfect 15/15/15 values are as follows:
- Level 30 (max wild CP) – 235 CP
- Level 35 (Max CP boosted by weather) – 255 CP
The wild CP value aligns with your trainer level until you reach level 30, and since the majority of the player base is now above that level, we’ve kept these values for the sake of it. of simplicity. These values will however be different if you are currently below level 30.
Is there a shiny Magikarp in Pokémon Go?
There is a shiny Magikarp in Pokémon Go.
Shiny Magikarp, along with the shiny version of its evolution, was released in March 2017 as the very first set of shinies in Pokemon Go. This was of course a throwback to the red Gyarados of Pokemon Gold & Silver.
If luck is on your side, you can find a Shiny Gyarados in the wild, but if not, you can get one by evolving a Shiny Magikarp using 400 Magikarp Candies.
Remember – Spotlight hours only increase the number of Magikarp spawning in the wild, not its shine rate. This means that unlike a Community Day, Magikarp’s shine rate will not increase during this event.
New to the game is a long-awaited Mega Evolution update, which arrived alongside A Mega Moment Research. May 2022 in Pokémon Go includes the Water Festival, which celebrates the release of Dewpider and Araquanid. Tapu Fini was also released alongside A Poni Adventure – the latest Alola region-themed Special Research quest. Currently, the Ultra League and Element Cup take place in the Go Battle League. Elsewhere, we’ve recently seen more Gen 7 Pokemon released as part of the Alola season. The first details surrounding Go Fest 2022 have also been announced, including the date of the event.
What does the Shining Magikarp look like?
As you can see in the image below, the shiny Magikarp has an entirely golden yellow cover. This is a big difference compared to its evolution. Shiny Gyarados has an all-red body.
Other reasons to catch as many Magikarp as possible
Besides the chance to catch a Shiny Magikarp in Pokémon Go, there are a number of other reasons to participate in this week’s Spotlight Hour:
- The bonus of this Spotlight hour is double evolution XPmeaning you’ll be rewarded for every Pokemon you evolve.
- If you’re a newcomer, this Spotlight Hour is the perfect time to collect enough Magikarp Candy to fully evolve this Pokémon into Gyarados.
- Tapu Bulu is still available in five-star raids, so you may encounter other players battling this Legendary Gen 7 Pokemon.
- Thanks to Magikarp being a Water type, catching a bunch during that Spotlight Hour will add progress to your Water Medal.
Spotlight Hour events are only one hour long – 6-6pm local time – but don’t worry if you can’t make it to this week’s event. Next week sees Seel appear.
