Silent Hill 2 M Room Combination Lock Puzzle Solution
You must count the number of dots, skulls and crescent moon symbols present on each moth inside room “M”, then use these matching numbers to solve the math problems displayed next to the lock combination. The “Hard” difficulty mode only changes the equation you get, not the moth amounts.
There are two hidden butterflies that you might miss while counting, which may make this puzzle more difficult than it actually is. To get to where these two hidden butterflies are, use your melee weapon and destroy the wall to the left of the butterfly display case, which is on the south wall, opposite where the combination lock is.
Crawl through the new hole and jump over the furniture at the end of the hallway, then continue until you come across a climbable cart. Leave the cart for now and look to the left, where you’ll see another display of moths. All you have to do now is push the bookcase to reveal the final moth pattern. Then you can jump on the cart to quickly return to the gap in the wall.
Now that you have revealed the last two moths, you can see that there are five dots, two skulls and eight crescent moon symbols in total on all the moths inside Room “M” . Using this information, you can determine the three mathematical equations displayed next to the combination lock:
‘Standard’
- Crescent moons (8) – points (5) = 3
- Skulls (2) + points (5) = 7
- Points (5) – skulls (2) = 3
‘Hard’
- Crescent moons (8) + skulls (2) – points (5) = 5
- Points (5) x skulls (2) – crescent moons (8) = 2
- [Skulls (2) + Crescent moons (8)] / points (5) = 2
Once you’ve solved the puzzle and entered the code, you can search the hole in the next room to get the second hand, which is needed to complete the final clock puzzle and leave the Blue Creek Apartments.
