A selection of tips and useful things to know when starting out in Galar.
Pokmon Sword and Shield may not be our favorites here at Eurogamer, but it is undeniable that they are adding many changes – big and small – to threaten the standard Pokmon formula.
There is a change in both old and new systems, which can affect everyone from new players to veterans and competitive riders. We've included all the in-depth guide pages in our Pokmon Sword and Shield Walkthrough with the route guide, if you want more in-depth pages and analysts – but here on this page we've compiled a quick and easy guide Pokmon Sword and Shield tips. All you have to know, we see, so fingers crossed this is a flying startup!
There are more changes between the two types than usual
Pokmon games have always released in the form of two different versions – and those two versions have always had their own special Pokmon.
With Sword and Shield, however, there are a few new additions to that specialty: namely Gyms and completely different Gym leaders.
If you're worried about who you want to fight, and which Pokmon – such as Gallery Farfetchd and Sirfetchd, or Galeari Pontya and Rapidash – you want to catch up, then our variations of Pokmon Sword and Shield and a separate page. it may be helpful.
Wild Pokmon encounters have changed again
The Freak game has continued to spread traditional ways of catching Pokemon in Word and Shield. When the long-term path has been to cross the tall grass (or down to the cave and water bodies) in the hope that random encounters raise the Pokmon you want, they put big things in Let Go, putting all Pokmon in the "overworld" and eliminating strange encounters.
For Sword and Shield, that is now a combination of the two. There are visible Pokmon roaming the shopping mall in traditional places – tall grass stems, water, caves, and so on – and there are random encounters. But they are different too: now, when you wander through the tall grass, a tick (!) Will appear, and the grass somewhere will start to rust. If you run that sweet grassy area, you will be thrown into a random encounter – as well as a Pokmon that can come from one that is often different from those in the crowded area …
You can now attract or protect wildlife without needing supplies
Sticking with wild Pokmon for a moment: you can now make your life a little easier in the background to prevent the above encounters – the wandering Pokmon won't run towards you, and the bitter grass will not start – or you can ride a Pokmon attack on you.
To skip, simply move the analog stick gently to the tall grass, so your character moves slowly. You will see your character go down to show that you are treading carefully! To whistle, in the meantime, click the left stick.
If you're a competitive sport, Natures is now less important
Nature, in case you didn't know, is a way to be proud of your Pokmon figures. Each environment – with the exception of a few neutral ones – will boost one base for a small amount, and block the other for a small amount. So if you were eager to make your Mon & # 39; s, usually, that meant grigging first, by holding back loads of creatures or stopping them from breeding.
In Sword and Shield, there are now items – Herbs containing different names – that change the Pokmon Type of everything but the name. So if your Pokmon is a natural Timid, and you give it a Bold Herb, it will get an increase in stat and Bold Type restrictions, and yet be labeled "Timid" on its summary page. We only got these items after the game, mind you – so if you want a complete Pokmon for your standard gaming, you'll still need to digest.
What is hidden now is not hidden
From that first Potion to Pokmon Red and Blue, the series always features "hidden" objects – which don't appear in the game and can be moved straight as if they were not, but are collected when you press A while standing and looking in the right direction.
In Let Go, things have been made easier by your partner Pokmon wagging his tail to tell you when it's hot or cold. In Sword and Shield it is very simple: the hidden objects are now represented by a small sparkle in the ground. Keep your eye out for a small glow of white-yellow light, and always go with them to collect something hidden there, as it's usually a good thing!
Now there are some Pokmon level cap that you can catch, as well as the highest level you can train
Another old tradition of getting a tweak: where Gym badges in the past used to convert the highest level of Pokmon that would obey you "in battle (stopping your spouse from selling 100 monster at the start of the game and carrying you through it), now there's also a hint of how wild Pokmon is. which we would have been up to before getting it.
You will know that you have found one above your current level when you see the "best-looking" dialogue appear at the beginning of the encounter. If so, you won't be able to throw the ball to them to try to catch them – but you can also try to get them out, if you're brave, for good XP! Here's a description of Pokmon and Shield that look really strong if you want more details on how it works.
Dynamaxing and Gigantamaxing are only possible in certain areas – and Gigantamaxing with certain Pokmon
Near the Galar district there are things called "strong areas", and it is only after these that you will be able to find your Dynamax Pokmon
There are only two areas where you can find these reliably: in the Wild Area, in bright red objects on the ground that often turn to red light pillars, to show that the Dynamax Raid is available; and at Gym stadiums around the region, where you take on Gym leaders for your challenge. Expect more detailed descriptions of Dynamaxing and Gigantamaxing from us soon!
There are no HMs in this game, and the only skill you can unlock is one of your bikes
Sword and Shield eliminate HMs and their similarities almost completely. It's been coming – Sun and Moon replaced Pokmon which can be called Rotom – but this is the biggest change so far.
After a few hours, you will unlock the power of a Rotom Bike, allowing you to roam the world at high speed. Slowly afterwards, you will gain the strength to ride that water bike, by walking from land to water without doing anything else, which looks clean! The fly, meanwhile, has been replaced by Flying Taxi in the region, which serves as the fastest route to any major destination you've already visited.
It also means that there are no obstacles in the games, or rocks to hit and waterfalls to ride, and all that – but at least it keeps things simple!
You can cool just about anything by hitting with curry
Pokmon Camp is the latest item that comes in the main series, letting you build a tent to interact with your Pokmon, or anyone else.
You can also cook a delicious warm curry if you combine classic ingredients such as Berries and other new items, such as Sausages. Doing so, without burning or demolishing it, will heal your entire party, including recovering their PP, healing status quo and resurrecting Pokmon at your party. It helps if you're short on things (or the money needed to buy them) or just don't want to leave somewhere like the Wild Area and track all the way back!
You can get in your box to swap with your Pokmon team from anywhere
Let's keep it aside, the core of traditional Pokmon games has been the PC box, the introduction of a classic character character that lets you keep all those Pokmon-shipped items that are not currently in your party.
Before that, you'll always have to visit the PC – usually at the Pokmon Center – to switch those Pokmon to your party from the box or vice versa. Now, once you have acquired the ability early on, you can swap those Pokmon in your box whenever you want. It means you'll probably have more than six Pokmon on the go at the same time, switching to an unpleasant new one to try a bit or use against a specific Gym leader. She is very good, and only restricted to special situations, such as Gym challenges.

Gym games come back as Gym Challenges, but they are not too difficult
The tricky part of Pokmon games is probably not entirely on Sword and Shield – but Gyms are as close to traditional as they have been in years.
You pull out eight Gyms, as usual, on your way to becoming a Champion, and each Gym starts asking you to solve the Gym Challenge. This is not always a puzzle – sometimes it is a battle or mini-game – but occasionally you can find an unusual calf-brain. Don't worry though, as we will have all the solutions created here in case you get stuck – but they have never been so difficult!
