Should you “drink nectar” in Elden Ring?
Yes, you must drink Saint Trina’s nectar if you want to complete Thiollier’s quest.
Although nectar is indeed as deadly as Thiollier claims, killing you instantly as soon as you drink it, you will have to at least drink nectar. four times to hear the voice of Saint Trina.
After your fourth death, the screen will fade to black more slowly than usual and you will hear Saint Trina say the words: “Stop Miquella… Don’t turn the poor creature into a god…“
When you respawn at the Grace Site “Deep Purple Garden”, you will now have the option to “Convey the Words of Saint Trina” to Thiollier, who unfortunately was unable to hear Saint Trina’s voice, despite all the nectar he drank. Naturally, he is not pleased that you were chosen to hear Saint Trina’s voice and he was not, and at first, he will refuse to believe you.
At this point, you can either “try to pass on the words of Saint Trina again” to Thiollier, or you can choose to leave him alone for now. I recommend choosing the “Exit” option here, as you’ll be able to imbibe the nectar of Saint Trina a fifth and a sixth time to hear more about his plea.
The fifth time, she will say: “The deity would be Miquella’s prison. A caged deity… is beyond any possibility of rescue.
The sixth time, she will say: “You must kill Miquella… Grant her your forgiveness.“
After this point, Saint Trina’s dialogue will be exhausted and she will have nothing more to say, so you will no longer need to drink nectar once she asks you to kill Miquella. Once you have drunk nectar six times, you can continue Thiollier’s quest by trying to convey Saint Trina’s words to him again, at which point he will be angry enough to invade your world and fight you. You will need to defeat him before you can continue his quest.
What happens if you don’t drink nectar?
You can of course choose not to drink the nectar of Saint Trina, and in that case, literally nothing happens. Thiollier’s quest will be blocked and you will not be able to progress it until you drink the nectar. So, in the spirit of experimentation, it is perfectly acceptable to drink the nectar to progress Thiollier’s quest.
That’s all you need to know about consuming nectar in Elden Ring Shadow of the Erdtree. A strange distraction, but an intriguing one nonetheless. Once you’ve fought Thiollier, feel free to leave Stone Fissure Coffin, as there’s nothing more to do here.
