THE hang glider has been added to Son of the Forest during its first major patch on March 9, 2023, with the twins.
Hang gliding can cover great distances much faster than walking in Sons of the Forest, as long as you jump from a sufficient height.
To help you explore the island faster, we’ve detailed all the Hang gliding locations we have found so far, as well as how to use hang glider.

Sons of the Forest hang glider locations
We found three Hang Gliding Locations at Sons of the Forest:
- Coastal cliff in the northwest of the island
- West edge of the snowy mountain in the middle
- South slope of the snowy mountain in the middle

This hang glider is located west of the range containing the binoculars, which is north of the shotgun location.
It’s right on the edge of the cliff, overlooking the ocean.
West edge of the snowy mountain
This hang glider is near the location of the excavator, near the end of a river that runs from Five River Lake. You will need to climb to the top of this location to find the glider near a camp with two tents.
South slope of the snowy mountain
This hang glider isn’t actually on the edge of a cliff like the others, but instead you need to search on the edge of the tree line, near a camp and the cave on the south side of the snow mountain.
There are more places where you can find a hang glider, we just haven’t come across them yet. If you’re ever near the edge of a cliff or mountain, look for a black triangle-shaped object if you want to fight your way out of there.
Gliders cannot be stored in your inventory and are not displayed on your GPS location map when you land them, so be careful where you leave them! Setting up a camp nearby or using an additional GPS locator to mark it can help you track it.

How to use the hang glider in Sons of the Forest
The hang glider is a tool that you have to pick up every time you want to use it, which means it cannot be stored in your inventory.
Once you have picked up the hang glider, you must hold the jump button and stay in the air for a few seconds. The glider will then deploy automatically and only stop flying when you hit the ground or a tree if you are unlucky.
While flying in the glider, press forward to point down and gain some speed, or press backward to point up but lose speed. Pressing right and left will move you in that direction.
You can freely look around as usual while gliding without changing your heading.
The little green circle in the middle of the glider shows your direction, and keeping the little ball in the middle of the circle means you’re going straight and will stay in the air longer that way.
Once you land and the hang glider is unequipped there is no way to track where it is, so we recommend setting up camp or placing an additional GPS locator if you wish put a symbol on your card reminding you where you put it.
You can always take it back to your main base as well, but it’s a little tricky to get around and gets stuck very easily between trees.
