Saturday is a great day to hang out with friends, walk around town, and solve problems. Connections response for today, July 6th.

If you’ve never played it, Connections challenges you to sort a group of 16 words into four groups where all the words are well… connected. This connection could come from the fact that they share a similar meaning, are part of a place name, objects found in a kitchen, or anything else really!

Although it may seem easy, the connection groups each have a different level of difficulty – yellow being the easiest and purple being the most difficult. Originally developed at the New York Times’ annual game jam, Connections was released in beta in June 2023. It has since become one of the most popular games featured by the NYTimes, second only to Worlde. Although some connections have been made to the BBC’s Only Connect program…

Hint for today’s Connections answer

Instead of jumping straight to the answer, let’s start with some clues for today’s Connections riddle:

  • YELLOW – What forms organic bodies.
  • Green – Items typically purchased for a toddler.
  • Blue – Things you can use as musical instruments.
  • Purple – Words that go well with Tag.
  • The cell belongs to the yellow group, the mobile to the green and the spoons to the blue.

Remember: yellow is the easiest group to find, followed by green and blue, with purple being the hardest set of words to connect.

Without further ado, here is Connections’ response for today:

  • Biological building blocks – Atom, Cell, Molecule, Protein.
  • Shopping for a baby – Bottle, Crib, Mobile, Rattle.
  • Objects played as instruments – Jug, saw, spoons, washboard.
  • ___Label – Dog, Gel, Phone, Price.

Maybe I wasn’t in the mood or I couldn’t find the right angle to group the words in today’s connect puzzle. After trying all my best, I could only find two groups. The first was the yellow one. I just saw the words and thought they were all little things we all have in our bodies! Then I got the blue group by putting objects together. Unfortunately, I had to wait until the end of the game to see which words were in the green and purple groups.

What to play after Connections?

The obvious answer to this question is Wordle, but if you’ve already solved that problem today, the New York Times has other games to offer. As for word-based games, the NYTimes offers Mini Crossword, Spelling Bee, Letter Boxed, and Strands, which is still in beta. If you feel like taking a break from words, you can also try Tiles — a pattern-matching game — or Sudoku.

Outside of the NYTimes, there is Semantle, where you have to find the secret word by guessing its meaning. Spelling doesn’t matter in Semantle, instead you have to pay attention to the numerical value of your guesses to plot your way to the answer. However, if you prefer to stick to the Connections format, it’s worth checking out Puzzgrid. There are hundreds of Connections-style puzzles there, but the twist is that you only have three minutes to solve them.
