I submitted “Anime” as a second guess for today’s Wordle and, I’ll freely admit, I’m pretty disappointed that it wasn’t the answer. That aside, I reached ‘Alive’ on my fourth attempt after attempting ‘Abide’.

The etymology of today’s Wordle

Looking at the history of “Alive”, we can see that it comes from various Middle English words, such as “Alife” and “Olife”. These words have their own origin in the Old English “On lif”, which, unsurprisingly, can literally be translated as “In life”. The “On” means “In”, while “Lif” means “Life”.
