Five attempts and I finally managed to get today’s word “PLACE” before losing my hard-earned streak (it’s an exaggeration but it’ll do the trick). After guessing three of the five letters I needed with “REACH”, it took some rearranging to get the word “PLACE” in time.

The etymology of today’s Wordle

The current word “PLACE” comes from the Latin words “PLATEA” meaning “Place” or “Wide Street” and “PLACEA” meaning “Spot”. The modern variation of the word also replaces the English words “STEDE” and “STOW”, which are a pretty egregious example of how words can simply change or disappear over time.

Meanwhile, Dordle, Quorodly, Octordly and Sedecordle all stick to the standard Wordle, while increasing the number of words you need to find. The challenge lies in how your guesses count for all words. So you need to decide whether you are going to focus on a specific word or try to solve multiple words at the same time. Fortunately, the number of guesses given to you increases as the number of words you have to solve.
